Tales of Arise is an RPG where you will be meeting up and making friends with tons of characters that you will meet throughout the story.
Stay tuned to learn and find out how to become best friends by maxing out the bonds with them.
Everybody knows cooking, adventuring, and even fishing with its tons of buffs. But not a lot of people realize the Bonds in this game.
There is a system that is called bonding or affinity in Tales of Arise. This will allow you to become much closer to certain characters and get certain buffs from them.
In this guide, we will be showing you how to max out the bonds with all the characters possible in Tales of Arise. Let’s get started.
How to Max Bonds in Tales of Arise
While meeting up and talking with the characters in Tales of Arise you will be getting better and closer to them. This is a very interesting system that this game has.
Before their bond level is at its highest, each character has five bond events. Once you’ve reached the maximum, a smiley face will appear next to their name instead of a speech bubble.
But these bonds can’t be made as strong as they can be until pretty late in the story. They will be limited until a certain point, after which no more speech bubbles will show up.
There are a certain amount of things that you can do to actually increase these bonds. These here are our favorite and most recommended.
Progress through the Story
Your progression through the tale will have an effect on the number of speech bubbles that emerge in the camp.
Examine the area around the camp to determine whether a bubble is created each time you successfully complete a primary mission.
Talk once per Hour
After the passage of one hour in the game, you will be able to communicate with a member of your group.
If you attempt to make camp in a row, you will lose the ability to communicate with any of the members of the group.
Speak 5 Times with Characters
If a smiling face appears next to a character’s name, it means that your friendship with that character has achieved its full potential.
It is sufficient to have five conversations with members of the party to attain the maximum.
Fast Travel
If you unlock a new fast travel point that isn’t near a campsite, it’s best to fast travel back to a campsite and rest.
This will restore your HP and CP, of course, but it will also give you a chance to check on your bonds.
Once you’ve set up camp, you can quickly return to the point you just unlocked. There is no punishment for this at all.
This is a good tip because there are parts of the game where you won’t be able to camp for a few hours.
This wastes valuable time that could have been spent getting closer to the next bond event.
Don’t Rush the End Boss
Overall, it’s a good idea to strengthen your bonds whenever you can, but you shouldn’t put off the final battle for hours so you can get them to the max.
You can also finish these bond events without having to start a new playthrough by loading your game after beating the last boss.
How to Do & Unlock Camp Bonding
When you first play Tales of Arise, you won’t be able to bond with your camp for a while.
It’s unlocked when you first go to Cyslodia, at which point Rinwell becomes a full member of the party instead of just a guest.
Once Rinwell is a full member of the party, a skit will play the next time the party goes to a camp.
In addition to this, the game will teach you about camp bonding and take you through a short tutorial. Then you can choose one of your party members to talk to.
Rinwell’s name will be grayed out for the first time the camp bonds. This is because the game wants you to talk to Shionne first so that it can teach you how to play.
After that, you’ll only be able to talk to one party member at a time while camping. After you choose a cooking recipe, it will be the last thing you can do before you go to sleep.
Why Should you Max Out the Bonds?
Other than becoming a very close friend to the character and getting brand new interactions and animations, there are a lot of buffs that you can get from the max bond number.
These are all the things why you should max out the bonds with all the characters.
Trophies
There are a certain amount of trophies that you can unlock when maxed out the bonds with a certain character.
These are all of them:
- An Honest Mage
- Intertwining Hearts
- Wall Smasher
- Drink till you Drop
- A Modest Dream
- Role Model
Alphen’s Titles
Enlightening Bond is one of Alphen’s titles that can be unlocked by making the strongest bond with one party member.
Keeping this in mind, the fastest way to do this is to get close to Shionne as soon as possible.
Secondary Mystic Artes
Master Artes are secondary Mystic Arts that can only be unlocked by bonding.
If you wish to acquire a new Mystic Arte or obtain all of the Mystic Arts, spend as much time as you can in camp bonding with your party members.
- Kisara – Final Player > non-elemental attack
- Dohalim – Epochal Severance > dark elemental attack
- Alphe – Blazing Pillar > this has nothing to do with bond levels
- Shionne – Explosive Charge > non-elemental attack
- Rinwell – Aquarius Damnation > water elemental attack
- Law – Crimson Skies > fire elemental attack
More Lore and Story
Last but not least, these events lead to some fun skits that tell us more about each character’s past.
This is less of a direct benefit than the others, but it’s always good to learn more about the characters.
That’s all the things why you should max out the bonds. They are very necessary things to have and will give you buffs that will make you stronger.
Also, having these items are collectibles. So if you want to go for a 100% completion of the game you will need to have them.
Events
Everyone is a fan of the cutscenes in Tales of Arise. When you will be maxing out the bond and relationship statues with a character, you will get tons of them.
This way you will unlock a lot of visual material that you wouldn’t be able to see about your favorite characters. Highly rewarding and enjoyable!
How to Know When the Bond is at a Maximum
If you go to the camp to rest and one of the characters doesn’t have a speech bubble next to their name while the others have.
It indicates that the character’s bond with the other characters has reached its highest peak possible for this section of the tale.
Can I Increase the Bond with a Character with no Speech Bubble?
No.
Never talk to a party member who doesn’t have a speech bubble instead of a character who does.
There’s no reason to do this, and it won’t get you any closer to the next level for that character. If there are no speech bubbles at all, it doesn’t matter with whom you talk.
You only get a few short scenes where Alphen interacts with a character but there is no dialogue.
Conclusion
That’s everything that you need to know about how the Bond System works in Tales of Arise. It isn’t very confusing or hard to understand, just sometimes the devs don’t explain it a lot.
Make sure to follow all of these tips and do not rush out of the game. You will want to max out the bonds before you take on the final boss for maximum buffs.
You can get all the trophies and lots of rewards, and also make a 100% completion rate of Tales of Arise by maxing out the bonds, which is always a very good deal.
I hope that this guide has helped you out and made you a better overall friend to all the characters in the game. Happy bonding!
