If you’re looking to make a difference in For Honor, I’ve got you covered! I have an updated tier list to share with you, looking at the unique playstyles of the available heroes and recommending the best for all skill levels.
I have completely refreshed this tier list to reflect the Year 9 Season 4 meta. This includes the massive shifts we’ve seen over the last year, moving away from outdated legends to the actual powerhouses of today.
The best characters on this list stand out because they have answers for everything: high damage, safety from punishment, and the ability to control the pace of a fight.
With these in mind, let’s jump right in and let’s check out my updated For Honor Tier List, with in-depth details for all the best characters in the game.
Tier S Characters
Heroes in the S-tier are the absolute best in the game and are great options to try if you’re looking for a new main. I’m listing them first, to make it easier to follow the list, then I will go in-depth, explaining my choices.
- Juren
- Varangian Guard
- Afeera
- Shinobi
- Jiang Jun
Let’s check out all the details on why I chose the heroes above as the best of the best.
Juren
We have to start with Juren, the heavy-hitting Wu Lin hero. Armed with the massive Fang Tian Hua Ji, Juren brings a terrifying mix of range and hyper-armor trading capability.
His unique mechanic allows him to extend his combos indefinitely as long as he has stamina, and his zone attack covers nearly 360 degrees, making him the new king of team fights.

Varangian Guard
Since her release, she has become the ultimate defensive anchor. Her all-guard stance stuns opponents when blocking, and allows her to heal, making her incredibly frustrating to fight in 4v4 modes.
She has arguably the best hitboxes for external guarding in the game. If you like being the unkillable wall that protects your team, she is your best pick.
Afeera
Afeera remains a top-tier threat because she literally has “good everything.” She isn’t “old” news yet; her kit is a masterclass in versatility.
She has neutral bashes to open up turtles, undodgeable finishers to catch panic-dodgers, and displacement heavy attacks that can wall-splat enemies for massive damage. She is mobile, hits hard, and is surprisingly safe.
Shinobi
Shinobi has seen a lot of changes over the years, but let’s be clear: the “ranged guard break” is ancient history. The modern Shinobi is S-Tier because of mobility and ganking potential.
His strength lies in his “Sickle Rain” pin, which locks an opponent in place, allowing teammates to land free heavy attacks. Combined with his double-dodge recovery cancels, which let him dodge out of his own attack recoveries, he is nearly impossible to punish if played correctly. He dictates the flow of combat.
Jiang Jun

Jiang Jun combines huge hitboxes, a hyper armor heavy attack, and an unblockable heavy attack and thus is considered one of the strongest heroes.
With exceptionally high damage, Jiang Jun is ideal for both 1v1 and team fight scenarios, especially when considering his extra stamina regeneration from his stance and his extra i-frames.
In terms of feats, use Deadly, Inspire, Soothing Mist, and any of the tier 4 options.

Tier A Characters
A-tier heroes have great stats and abilities overall but they are a bit trickier to master than S-tier ones.
- Khatun
- Black Prior
- Ocelotl
- Kyoshin
- Warmonger
- Shaolin
- Hitokiri

Tier B Characters
B-tier heroes are more situational and less versatile than A-tier options but they are still strong overall.
- Sohei
- Conqueror
- Berserker
- Raider
- Medjay
- Zhanhu
- Pirate
- Centurion
- Warlord
- Gryphon

Tier C Characters
Lastly, C-tier characters have been on the weaker side of the spectrum and I would recommend avoiding them, at least until they receive some buff.
- Lawbringer
- Nobushi
- Peacekeeper
- Highlander
- Valkyrie
- Tiandi
- Nuxia
- Gladiator
- Warden
- Aramusha
- Shugoki
- Jormungandr
- Kensei
If you really like the design of these characters, you should definitely try them out. After all, even C-tier characters can help you win games, including 1v1 duels and 4v4 encounters.
Wrapping up
To summarize this For Honor tier list for 2026: Juren, Varangian Guard, and Afeera are the trifecta of power you should be looking at if you want the highest win rate.
Keep in mind that every character can be good with enough practice and you should feel free to try and master your favorite characters regardless of their rankings. After all, all tier lists are, to some extent, subjective.
