Megabonk Dicehead – Best Build

I’ll get this straight from the beginning: I am not Dicehead’s biggest fan, as I consider the extra luck factor involved in playing him a bit too much for a game where RNG is already so important.

Still, there are ways to play him to get the most out of it, and today I am here to share the best Dicehead build in Megabonk – a “Controlled Chaos” build that gets the most of his potential. Let’s begin!

How Dicehead Works

Dicehead’s entire identity revolves around his passive ability: each level grants a random permanent bonus to one of his core stats (crit chance, damage, armor, attack speed, or cooldown reduction).

The randomness will make early runs brutal, but it also gives him solid late-game scaling once these buffs begin stacking.

This means that the main Pros of playing Dicehead are his infinite stat growth, guaranteed crits (in the late stages of the game), solid synergies with all Tomes (especially the Chaos Tome), and dominating end-game scaling (if you do manage to get there).

Of course, the Cons are equally impressive. The fact that he’s so reliable on RNG rolls is a big turn off for me (and probably many other players), he’s also very weak early game, and requires strong mobility and lucky runs.

Dicehead rewards patience and adaptability. Your build should bend around whatever bonuses you roll and not the other way around as it is the case of all the other characters.

How to Unlock Dicehead

Unlocking him isn’t quick: you must complete 100 quests and obtain his signature weapon, Dice. It’s a grind, like most things in the game, but the only way to get him.

If you prefer characters that are more guaranteed to scale into amazing ones when you reach the late game stages, I recommend checking out my Megabonk Robinette Meta Build or the Best Build for Vlad.

Understanding Dicehead’s Scaling & Playstyle

Dicehead’s power curve is weird but satisfying if you get it right (read: are lucky). Early on, you’ll rely on movement and XP farming just to stay alive.

Mid-game is where the magic starts happening. Once his passive stacks crit and damage consistently, his attacks begin landing guaranteed critical hits.

By late game, Dicehead no longer needs Shrines or external buffs. His level-up bonuses outscale nearly everything on the map. At that point, every hit, explosion, or projectile you fire becomes a nuke. But let me tell you that is sounds easier than it actually is!

Now, let’s carry on with the build and focus on the items and what you should do!

Best Weapons for Dicehead

Dicehead’s scaling favors weapons that multiply crits or damage over time. Here’s how they stack up – from the best (top) to the worst options.

WeaponWhy It Works
DiceInfinite crit scaling and perfect synergy with his passive. Turns every hit into a crit factory.
RevolverOne-shot potential with heavy crit synergy; risky aim but unmatched burst.
AuraFarms XP passively, removing the need for Shrines and feeding more level-up buffs.
Lightning StaffProvides AoE crowd control – clutch during swarm phases.
Katana / Zorro Blade / Black Role / Axe / BananaUsually poor picks – just stay away from them.

If you want to get the most out of this build, Dice is mandatory. Aura and Revolver can complement it perfectly, depending on your risk tolerance and playstyle.

Best Tomes for Dicehead

Tomes shape how Dicehead’s randomness manifests – up to a point, at least. A focused order helps tame RNG and keep your scaling balanced. Apart from the Chaos Tome mentioned earlier, here is the path I recommend following:

  1. Precision / Crit Tome – Increases crit chance and crit damage; this is the core of every build.
  2. Damage / Multiplier Tome – Doubles the effect of guaranteed crits for massive bursts.
  3. XP Tome – Levels you faster, stacking permanent buffs at warp speed.
  4. Luck Tome – Improves drop rates, tome quality, and Shrine outcomes.
  5. Attack Speed / Cooldown Tome – More hits = more crits = faster snowballing.
  6. Armor / Health Tome – Optional safety pick if early RNG rolls are weak.

There’s also one tome to skip: Quantity Tome scales poorly with Dicehead’s kit and slows early momentum.

Best Items for Dicehead

While in many cases, this can literally be a dice roll, some items can actually boost stability and survivability while feeding your scaling engine. These are the best (from best to worst:

ItemEffect
Forbidden JuiceRaw power boost
Gym SauceIncreases base damage
Overpowered LampStabilizes random procs
Turbo Socks / Turbo SkatesMovement speed

Tip: Pair Overpowered Lamp with Dice – after a few levels, it turns the build from “luck-based” to “always-on.” Mobility gear also becomes vital for surviving boss waves and repositioning between Shrines.

Gameplay Strategy to Get the Most Out of This Build

Early Game

As mentioned before, this is Dicehead’s weakest point. Your focus here is farming XP and positioning for the future. Here’s what to do:

  • Stick to Aura or Lightning Staff for crowd control.
  • Prioritize XP and Luck Tomes.
  • Skip Difficulty Tomes until your level curve exceeds enemy scaling.
  • Always grab Projectile Quantity at Shrines as it scales far better than its tome version.
  • Don’t waste time on defensive weapons; mobility is your defense even in the later stages.

Mid Game

This is where Dicehead starts getting better. Here is how to continue playing starting this point:

  • Crits start chaining; your screen begins flashing yellow.
  • Start taking Damage and Precision Tomes.
  • Focus on farming XP loops (Aura).
  • Once your crit chance feels stable, switch gears toward pure offense.

Late Game

Dicehead becomes a walking nuke if you manage to get here with the build recommended above and all the RNGs on your side (or at least most of them). Here’s what happens now:

  • All hits are guaranteed crits at this point.
  • Shrine farming becomes optional as level-ups handle everything.
  • The Dice + Precision Tome + Overpowered Lamp trio turns every hit into a boss killer, too.
  • Add Lucky, XP, Size, and Attack Speed Tomes if you’re aiming for leaderboard runs.

Advanced Tips for Leaderboard Climbs

If you are indeed going for leaderboard climbs and you want to be in the top 5% or even 1%, here are some strategies to keep in mind:

Always prioritize projectile upgrades at Shrines as they outperform most other bonuses.

Run four weapons, not defensive ones. Toggle off the weaker ones to save cooldowns.

Use Difficulty Tome only when you’re comfortably ahead of enemy scaling.

Reroll or adjust bonuses mid-run if possible. If your early rolls are trash, pivot to XP and Armor stacking instead of forcing crits or, if you really care about rankings only, restart and hope for a better run.

Final Thoughts

Dicehead has the potential to become an amazing character, but it still bases most of its gameplay on luck alone – which is something I don’t like. But it’s fun to try, for sure, and if you prefer this type of randomness, you now have the perfect build to go with it.

Dicehead is clearly not for beginners – he’s for players who like bending probability until it breaks. Even unlocking him requires some experience.
