Vlad is one of the best and most fun characters to play in Megabonk right now. And what’s not to love about a character who refuses to die?
Today, I’m here to help you with the best Vlad build in the game, based on the latest Meta, and with a unique approach that will put you in the top 5% easily.
Just be patient and play him right – Vlad is a slow starter, but becomes a real monster once scaling kicks in. The key to this build is around projectile count, XP gain, and damage scaling. Let’s see how that goes!
TL;DR: Final Build Loadout
I recommend reading the entire build details below, but if you want to know what to aim for, here’s the quick summary:
| Slot | Best Picks | Viable Swaps / Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Blood Magic (starter), Katana, Flamewalker, Dice | Tornado (for consistent AoE), Revolver / Bananarang / Slutty Rocket (comfort picks), Aegis (defensive trade-off) |
| Tomes | XP, Quantity, Damage, Cursed | Cooldown / Attack Speed (if low DPS), HP / Shield / HP Regen (for extra sustain) |
| Items | Gym Sauce, Moldy Cheese, Medkit, Oats, Backpack, Slurp Gloves, Bloody Cleaver | Demonic Blade (crit heals), Chonkplate (20% Lifesteal + overheal buffer) |
| Shrine Focus | Projectile Count -> Movement Speed -> Difficulty (if you don’t have Cursed Tome) |

Why These Picks Work

Blood Magic + Vampire = Infinite Sustain Engine
Vlad’s lifesteal scales directly with level. Every XP gain is permanent sustain. Combined with Blood Magic’s occasional Max HP procs, he keeps growing tougher as fights drag on – the reason why focusing on the aforementioned XP gain, projectile spamming and damage uptime is so important (it keeps the healing loop working!)
Weapon Synergy Breakdown
Katana is your early weapon of choice. It covers the blind spots Blood Magic can’t hit and scales with both projectile count and attack speed. It’s a close-range damage-dealer that triggers lifesteal constantly.
Flamewalker brings the AoE that is essential for any solid Vlad build. It drops pools that damage enemies chasing you, and they persist even while airborne. If you prefer consistency over burn ticks, Tornado can replace Flamewalker, but I had better results with the former.
Dice is the engine of this build. Its permanent crit chance growth and rapid projectiles feed directly into lifesteal and on-crit healing from items like Bloody Cleaver or Demonic Blade.
When all three weapons are upgraded and projectile-boosted, Vlad can out-heal nearly any incoming damage, including boss bursts, making him almost invincible. Sure, it takes time, but once you get past the early-stage difficulty, you turn Vlad into the GOD he deserves to be.

Tome Selection
XP Tome is essential as it turns Vlad’s scaling from decent to absurd. More levels mean more lifesteal, more HP procs, and faster snowballing. Pretty easy here.
Quantity Tome multiplies every offensive option: Katana slashes, Flamewalker pools, Dice throws, and Blood Magic bolts. It’s mandatory for late-game.
Damage Tome patches his early-game weakness, letting you clear faster and survive until the scaling loop starts.
Cursed Tome makes the mid-game shine by spawning more enemies (and therefore more XP). It synergizes perfectly with the XP Tome, meaning more targets, more levels, more lifesteal.
While it’s not mentioned here (for all the right reasons), you can also read about unlocking the Chaos Tome in the game.
Item Choices and Core Synergies
Gym Sauce and Moldy Cheese boost your kill speed – one raises raw damage, the other adds poison damage over time. Together, they melt tougher enemies before they can overwhelm you.
Medkit gives passive regeneration, which stacks with your lifesteal ticks and is essential especially in the earlier stages of the run. Oats increase max HP, amplifying how much you can overheal with Chonkplate later on.
Slurp Gloves create periodic AoE hits that both damage and heal, while Bloody Cleaver converts crits into health.
Backpack adds +1 projectile across the board, turning your screen into a crimson storm.
Late-game legendaries like Demonic Blade (25% heal chance on crit) and Chonkplate (20% extra lifesteal + overheal up to 75% of Max HP) push the sustain loop into “AFK viable” territory.
Combined with Blood Magic’s Max HP scaling, you can sometimes stand still and watch your health bar overflow.

How to Play Vlad (Stage by Stage)
Now that you know the build to use/aim for, you must know how to play him to get to the later stages where all those goodies add up and make him invincible. Here are the tips you need to know to get the most out of Vlad in Megabok:
Early Game (Stage 1)
Play cautiously and kite. This is the biggest challenge, as Vlad is the weakest now. Blood Magic hits hard but targets unpredictably, so stay mobile.
Prioritize finding Katana and early XP or Damage Tomes. Don’t take unnecessary fights until you can sustain through them – you’re still a pretty feeble vampire at this point.
Mid Game (Stage 2)
This is Vlad’s turning point. By now, you should have XP, Quantity, and Cursed active. Flamewalker keeps your back safe while you slice ahead. Stay aggressive and farm densely packed mobs to keep leveling.
Late Game & Beyond
Once you’re properly stacked with multiple lifesteal sources, crit heals, Chonkplate overheal buffer, Vlad can literally stand still in some waves. It’s incredible and extremely rewarding.
The synergy between Blood Magic, Chonkplate, and Demonic Blade creates a healing loop so fast it outpaces nearly all incoming damage.

Strategy Recap/TLDR
- Start safe, focus on XP and lifesteal scaling.
- Build into Quantity and Damage Tomes.
- Add AoE pressure via Flamewalker.
- Stack healing synergies (Cleaver, Chonkplate, Gloves).
- Watch your HP bar hit absurd numbers and the screen fill with red.
With this setup, Vlad transforms from a squishy caster into an immortal vampire who can quite literally go AFK through late waves, if RNG Gods smile on your loot rolls.
