In the roguelite city-builder Super Fantasy Kingdom, unit selection plays a major role in whether your run survives the mid-game waves and claws into the late cycle, or if it fails miserably early on.
Today, I am here to help you with a full guide on units – from a list of the unlockable ones (and how to unlock each) to an actual ranking of my favorite units and why they should become your favorite too. Let’s jump right in!

Best units in the game
The best units in the game are somewhat relative, as it matters a lot what Heroes you are pairing them with and what choice options you have. I am updating this list after playing the game more, with the absolute best ones at the moment.
I have a guide on what Heroes to unlock first here – make sure to also read it. Now here are my top choices:
Werewolf

The Werewolf is a perfect choice for your front row – it’s deadly, it’s easy to get, it’s extremely useful in all situations.
Crossbowman / Archer

Ranged units are really good in the game, and either the Archer or the Crossbowman are great from day one. They can be placed on towers, they have solid range and can be leveled up to deal more damage. And the best part is that one is always available to recruit – and it’s usually a must.
Griffin

Decent combat stats, but the headliner is its range-extending buff for surrounding units – perfect for a backline-heavy layout using ranged units – and you see I list plenty here. It can also stay on towers and can be recruited easily after you explore a bit.
Flamewalker

Even though it’s not as easy to get as other units in the game, the Flamewalker is perfect: tanky, ranged, perfect for dealing AoE.
Monk

The early buy if you run an outpost for 3× wheat. Monk brings survivability and utility from day one and remains relevant well into longer cycles. It also pairs smoothly with taunt tanks and Holy-theme allies.
Dinosaur

Another relatively easy unlock, Dinosaur is the best tank in the game at the moment. Not extremely useful as a damage dealer, but once you get access to it, it’s usually better than the Swordsman.
Shaman

Think of Shaman as the anchor for mid-to-late fights, perfect to stay at the back and summon deadly units (and eventually heal them too). You must defeat the second boss before getting access to it, but it’s not too difficult.
Ghost

Ghost adds flexible utility that helps smooth out waves before they get too close. A unit I constantly get, and one that always proves to be useful.
Bard

A support pick that buffs cooldowns to adjacent allies. Once your economy supports beer production, Bard gives your backline more casts and tighter uptime on key skills.
Angel

A later unlock due to the faith requirement (99), but strong once available. Useful in mixed compositions that need staying power and sustain.
Swordsman

The affordable taunt solution – because you can’t have a solid setup with ranged units alone. Easy to upgrade with stones, serviceable as a dungeon send-off, and you won’t miss him much until the end of the cycle.
He buys time for your shooters to work, basically, although he’s just the “last resort” type of option, if you do not have better tanks to put up front.
Wrapping up
These would be my top picks in terms of units – as well as details on how to unlock them all. With so many to pick from, though – especially the rarer unlockables, I am sure this will be updated soon with more advice. But until then, for those just starting, these should be solid units to focus on.
