The Phoenix was the first boss in Super Fantasy Kingdom that I had trouble defeating. But, after a few tries – and all with various heroes – I managed to take it out with Rickard, the default hero.
Of course, this time I had a strategy and built my entire run to defeat the Phoenix and I will share everything I did with you below, including the line-up of heroes I had, and all the help I got from items and everything else.
Preparing for the Phoenix
This boss arrives in the game on day 21, so you have plenty of time to prepare for it. There are two important milestones that you need to reach, in my opinion, which will make your life a lot easier (and you can always get them, as there’s no RNG involved here):
1. Get the healer!
And ideally, level him up at least once. Since the Phoenix will deal fire damage, having somebody to constantly heal your troops is mandatory.
The healer is not one of the first units you will need in your setup, but as day 21 draws close, make sure you have enough resources to unlock him and start using him in your line-up.
2. Complete the dungeon
Getting all three stages of the dungeon completed rewards you with an impressive relic: a shield that gives you some protection, specifically against the burning effect that the Phoenix gives. You will need three days to complete all three stages (and a unit of level 5 at least), but it’s worth it.
I did it by sending my Swordsman into the dungeons – the Swordsman is one of the most useless units in the game for the most part, but extremely good for tasks like this. For the best units in Super Fantasy Kingdom, make sure to read my previous guide.
3. Get the right squad ready
I am sure you can defeat the Phoenix with more heroes, but I did it with Rickard, as I said. I also used mostly units that were available in each run (the Crossbowman, the Paladin, the Healer) but also a few that are very important and useful in this case:
- the Werewolf, which is one of the best units in the game.
- Headless (but it can be replaced with any similar, solid damage dealer)
- Siege units – these are luck-based, but you can unlock at least two for your run – go for those that cause damage instead of debuffs.
Fighting the Phoenix

The main preparations are detailed above, but there are still a few things you should keep in mind during the actual fight.
The most important part when fighting the Phoenix is making sure that your main troops reach it – my Rickard, for example, was in the back (see the screenshot at the top) and didn’t reach the Phoenix, dealing no damage.
I moved him instead of the Swordsman (who had zero chances of reaching the Phoenix anyway) and the tide of battle changed. So always keep in mind to double-check the range of your units and make sure that all can hit the boss.
Apart from that, having built some walls and towers will help with the extra hit points, and leveling up your units (through resources) as much as possible is also a bonus.
You might need to get that creature portal and summon 1-2 units to help you – but this depends on what you get randomly from the game. If you already have a solid lineup, use those nuggets to turn them into gold and upgrade your RNG units instead.
After you do all these things, you will defeat the Phoenix easily. I now constantly do so. And if you want to learn even more about the game, make sure to read my Super Fantasy Kingdom tips and tricks as well.
