Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key marks Ryza’s third and final adventure, but you won’t have it easy: you will still need to re-learn abilities and recipes you had come to rely on in previous entries in the series.
This even includes alchemy recipes for items needed to craft equipment, with the game not indicating this clearly. In this guide, I will go over everything you need to know regarding the Skill Tree in Atelier Ryza 3, which paths to take, and the best early upgrades to prioritize for a smoother start.

Atelier Ryza 3: Skill Tree Direction Information

The general layout of the Skill Tree in Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key starts you off at a certain point and leads off in 4 available directions. Each one generally leads to one category of upgrades, though all will contain item recipes.
This way, there is no one correct direction to follow, and you can even split your upgrades any way you like. Still, knowing what each direction offers will help you unlock the right abilities at the right time.
Upward Direction
Players that start unlocking nodes going UP from the center point, will find nodes that lead primarily to alchemy upgrades and certain key materials.
Here you’ll find boosts to maximum synthesis quality and returning alchemy features from Atelier Ryza 1 and 2 , like item duplication. This is also where the recipes for materials like Creaminea are contained.
Downward Direction
Players that start unlocking nodes going Down from the center point, will find nodes that lead primarily to multiple SP gain upgrades, along with weapon and armor recipes.
The very first node gives a +10% SP gain, making it one of the most valuable early-game pickups. Deeper into the branch, you’ll find more SP boosts, though they require more investment to reach.
Left Direction
Players that start unlocking nodes going Left from the center point, will find nodes that lead primarily to where you’ll improve gathering by hand or with a staff.
Early on, you’ll unlock Gathering Lv. 2 (the third node in), which greatly improves material collection, especially useful before you’ve upgraded your tools. This path also contains Basket Size Up 1, allowing you to carry more items before returning to the Atelier. The Emerald Band recipe, required to access certain areas, is also located here.
Right Direction
Players that start unlocking nodes going Right from the center point, will find nodes that lead primarily to recipes for consumable items.
You’ll also get access to Core Crystal modification and increased Key Modification time.
When you unlock a Skill Tree node, any connected nodes will then be revealed. The further from the center you get, the more expensive skills generally get.

Atelier Ryza 3: Skill Tree Recommendations

While you’ll want to unlock most skills eventually, there are a few early on that are worth getting early on.
For starters, the downward branch starts with a +10% gain to SP making it a no-brainer. There are further upgrades later in that branch, but these take far more SP to get when you are starting to open nodes.
The left branch is worth progressing to at least the Gathering Lv. 2 nodes (the third node in).
This will let you gather a lot of items quickly, especially when you don’t have access to better tools. This node is also linked to Basket Size Up 1, which will reduce the number of trips you need to make to an Atelier to store items.
It’s the upward branch that is the most important for progression though. Going up will unlock an early upgrade to the max quality of synthesized items.
This also connects to a node that unlocks item duplication, a helpful way to make lots of an item without the right ingredients or to duplicate crafted equipment.
Conclusion
The nodes you unlock can make or break your experience especially if you are one of the players that don’t want to spend their whole experience grinding for SP to unlock the ones you missed.
This information will help you be more prepared going in and allow for a smoother transition between story and gameplay.
