The Obliterator is Valheim’s trash can since its role is to eliminate any items you don’t want, instead of leaving them on the ground.
You will need a Thunder Stone to build the Obliterator, which can be bought from the Trader, as well as Iron and Copper.
In this guide, I will explain how to build and use the Obliterator in Valheim and showcase how to get a Thunder Stone.

How to Build an Obliterator in Valheim
Building an Obliterator can be done at any point in Valheim, as long as players have unlocked the required resources. Here’s what you’ll need to craft it:
- 8x Iron
- 4x Copper
- 1x Thunder stone
Also, you’ll need to have a Forge nearby to build it.
Copper can be found in the Dark Forest by mining the copper veins with any pickaxe. Iron can be found in the Swamp biome by mining scrap iron from muddy scrap piles within Sunken Crypts.
How to Get a Thunder Stone in Valheim
Thunder Stone can be the trickiest item to get on this list as it can only be purchased from the Trader after defeating The Elder Boss.
The issue is that the Trader can spawn anywhere on the map as long as it’s within the Dark Forest biome.
This means that the trader could be next to your spawn, or hundreds of tiles away.
Keep exploring until you find it and it gets marked on your map, or use the Valheim World Map and search your seed to locate the trader.
After finding him, the Thunder stone will cost 50 coins to purchase and its only usage is for crafting the Obliterator.
What Does the Obliterator Do?
With everything gathered and the Obliterator crafted, you’re probably wondering how to use it.
Simply place all your items inside, activate it, and back off slightly. A bolt of lightning will emerge from the sky and destroy any items you placed inside while also giving you a small amount of coal in exchange.
The coal you get is minimal, so it’s not worth doing it if you just want the coal.
Keep in mind that this bolt of lightning can damage nearby buildings, so don’t place the Obliterator close to any other structures.
Wrapping up
To summarize, players can build the Obliterator in Valheim with Iron, Copper, and a Thunder Stone.
Its role is to destroy any items you don’t need so that you won’t have to leave them on the floor.
Are you using the Obliterator often or do you prefer to throw your items on the ground? Do you think it’s worth building an Obliterator overall? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
