The mage is one of the three classes available in Warlander and the only class that focuses on fully ranged gameplay.
The mage specializes in dealing high single-target and AoE damage, with the tradeoff being having very low HP.
The best build for the mage combines AoE and single-target skills that deal great damage and allow you to shine in choke points where enemies are grouped.
In this guide, I will showcase the best mage build in Warlander by explaining the best mage skills to use.
Best Mage Skills in Warlander

Here are the best abilities for the mage, to ensure you can deal AoE and single-target damage, with solid crowd control effects and the ability to escape or reposition when needed.
- Ignition – Shoots a fireball into the ground which explodes when it hits an enemy. – This is a great ability to spam on choke points or take down doors as it deals solid AoE damage.
- Fire Wall – Generates a wall of flame that slows down and damages enemies. – Solid damage and crowd control spell that’s great to use on grouped enemies to damage and slow them down.
- Rocket Punch – Shoots a magic fist that flies straight ahead and explodes on impact. – The best part about this skill, other than the damage and knockback, is that it cannot be blocked by shields.
- Lightning – Call down a powerful lightning strike. The center deals the most damage – This ability focuses on dealing great damage in an AoE that’s ideal for taking down grouped enemies or siege weapons. The only setback is that it’s fairly slow since it takes about three seconds to cast.
- Lightning Shock – Locks into an enemy in front of you and deals continuous lightning damage. – This is a great single-target ability to damage and shocks an enemy that’s near you so that your team can easily take them down.
- Flash Step – Instantly teleport a short distance away – This is the get-out-of-jail card that allows you to escape dangerous situations. Additionally, you can also blink behind enemies to catch them off guard.
Best Mage Clothing, Weapons, and Familar

While there are various options in terms of clothing and weapons, I won’t focus too much on those as it’s too early in the game to talk about the ones. Instead, use the best ones that you’ve currently unlocked.
After all, you’ll be switching clothing and weapons almost after every game.
In terms of stats, focus on HP-up and Warrior-killer perks to ensure you have enough HP to survive a few attacks, while also having a way to deal with the annoying tanky warriors.
As for your familiar, I highly recommend using the Gyroscope as it offers high burst DPS that helps you take down enemies before they get healed.
Wrapping up
To summarize, the best build for the mage class in Warlander involves dealing high AoE damage while also being able to dominate choke points and take down structures.
Combine these with some solid crowd control and single-target damage, and you can see why the mage is exceptionally strong.
