If you’re just starting your Scavland journey, you are probably overwhelmed – just like I was when I started.
But I am here to help you get the upper hand and start on the right foot by sharing my top Scavland tips and tricks for beginners in this complete guide.
The Brutal Reality of Early Combat

Your starting mission is to collect berries, which is much harder than it sounds because rats and dogs are out there wanting your blood.
While you might be tempted to use your pistol, save that weapon for more difficult enemies (the kinds that shoot back at you) and learn to use melee weapons – your knife – against these early mobs.
Your knife swings quickly, has decent reach, does AOE (area of effect) damage, and deals equal or more damage than your pistol.
Mastering it is not difficult, either. If a bunch of rats charge you, slowly back away while spamming your melee button – this is basically it in terms of early combat, although you will see that on the field it’s a bit more difficult than it sounds.
Interestingly, you can get “headshots” with your knife too, so it’s really worth using it and saving your ammo.
Complete the introductory missions to receive a free full-durability shotgun. Rely on the pistol, knife, and shotgun trio until you can afford upgrades.
The first thing you should focus on is getting the scope for your shotgun. While it sounds ridiculous, this is what the game offers and turns that basic scattergun into an absolute killing machine.
As long as you are fighting human enemies, almost any scoped gun allows you to land fatal shots while noticeably boosting your overall accuracy.

Inventory Rules and The 2×3 Secondary Weapon Puzzle

Space is at a premium. Stop hoarding garbage and stick to a strict loadout before leaving base. You should only carry something like:
- 1 stack of bandages
- 1 stack of medkits
- 1 stack of antirad pills
- 1 stack of canteens of water
- 1 stack of your canned goods of choice
When choosing a secondary weapon, it must fit into a 2×3 grid. Walk over to the tent to the left of Grigory and click on the weapon modification workbench to strip down bulky attachments.
- Bahadir 918: Build the large capacity magazine model (no muzzle). It is a close-range SMG with great firepower. You only need to buy a basic repair kit to maintain it.
- Mikhail 47: Build the no-stock model. It fits the grid even with a 30-round magazine and one-shots bandits easily. You can attach a common scope without changing its dimensions. It requires an advanced kit to repair, but doing requests makes it incredibly cheap.

Manipulating Traders for Profit and Power

Speaking of Grigory, buying from shops can be easier in Scavland if you pay attention a bit.
Buying a new gun costs 30k, while selling back your broken loot will get laughable returns.
However, Sasha is the better option and pays 10k for a broken shotgun for his specific missions – up to two shotguns per day.
Always bring two stacks of canned beans and canteens when visiting him, as he sells food and water.
He also sells full durability sniper rifles. Alternatively, you can take a short walk southeast of the Zalesie swamps to the Acolyte base, where the trader sells a sniper rifle for a little over 30,000.
For your primary weapon, the Medved is a solid early choice.
However, focus on Grigory. He buys most items at a 50% price rate (just not guns). Grind out his finding letters and kill missions to unlock the Mikhail 74u and the Mikhail 47. Whatever you shoot, always keep your weapons above 80% durability to avoid astronomical repair costs.
Finally, do not ignore Bogdan. He pays a massive premium for a rabbit eye, rat parts, and dog parts. Better yet, head to the swamp to the north and attack the bushes that hit you with spikes from the ground. They drop wood that is worth fortunes to Bogdan.

The 50k Vesna Exploit and Mission Management

Do not hoard 20 kill missions from 10 different mission givers. NPCs offer a total of 3 missions at any given time, and the pool resets with the same jobs the very next day.
Use this rigid system to your advantage with Vesna. Her Level 2 armor is heavily restricted behind a reputation 2 barrier, and grinding for random clothing drops will make you tear your hair out.
Instead, buy a raincoat from her inventory, then accept her mission to sell it back to her at a loss.
Do this 3 times a day. You will intentionally lose around 50k running this scam, but it rapidly and artificially inflates her trust until she unlocks that Level 2 armor.

Latest Patch Changes

The developers constantly update Scavlands, and the latest one was big.
Many long guns, explicitly including the Bahadir 918 and the Mikhail 47, now occupy 3 inventory rows instead of 2.
Your secondary weapon puzzle just got harder to pack, though they softened the blow by expanding stock compatibility across the Bahadir, Mikhail 47, 74u, and Borealis weapon families.
You can mix and match parts much easier now to find the perfect fit.
You also need to watch out for the new durability trap. Scrap-tier weapons lose durability noticeably faster than Basic weapons, meaning relying on garbage drops is a fast track to bankruptcy.
Worse still, armor durability got nerfed straight into the ground. Do not try to tank bullets under any circumstances. Here is how fast your gear will break before becoming useless:
- Tattered Armor: 3 hits
- Scavenger Armor: 4 hits
- Medium Armor: 5 hits
- Heavy Armor: 6 hits
On the bright side, sleeping now restores 5 health per in-game hour. This gives you a cheap way to patch yourself up when your medkits run completely dry.
