If you’re a fan of all things Pokemon, grabbing a cool pair of themed sunglasses is the perfect way to proclaim your love of the series.
Pokemon originally started life as a computer game before the trading card game was launched in the early 1990s in Japan – at the time, the idea of a collectible trading game was a relatively new concept, and distributors were initially difficult to find.
By 1996, however, the game’s popularity had grown, and the idea of an anime series was first mooted. Again, there was initial reluctance, with the makers concerned that the series could negatively impact the public’s perception of the trading card game.
However, after premiering in April 1997, by November of the same year, it had become the highest-rated program on Tokyo TV, and international expansion – and world Pokemon domination – quickly followed.
Today, there’s a near-infinite variety of merchandise available for fans of the series, and Pokemon sunglasses remain a popular choice of accessory for lovers of the show and games.
Kids Pokemon Sunglasses – Collect Them All!
For kids who can’t get enough of Pokemon, a pair of cute and cool sunglasses featuring their favorite characters is sure to be a hit!
Choose from a pair of black framed shades with an image of Pikachu emblazoned next to the left lens or a rubber-framed pair of sunnies featuring sun-loving Bulbasaur.
Or how about tinted aviator glasses that incorporate an upper section of your kid’s best-loved character from the animation – they’re half shades, half masks!
There are so many choices out there, so whether you’re looking for kids’ sunnies for everyday wear or an option that’ll form part of a Pokemon-themed fancy dress costume, you can easily find what you’re looking for.
J!ns Pokemon Eyewear for Grown-Ups and Kids
It’s not just kids that love Pokemon; the anime series boasts legions of adult fans, too. In honor of this diverse fanbase, eyewear brand J!ns recently launched an extremely popular and officially licensed range of Pokemon glasses for all ages.
There’s the flagship Pikachu model that features an earpiece tip inspired by the character’s tail and etched images and logos, as well as the Eevee, Snorlax, and Mew models.
Then there are the Kanto Region spectacles, which have etchings of Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu on the temple and retro-colored frames.
Other models include the Johto Region, Totodile, Lugia, and Ho-Oh, so there’s plenty of choice on offer – and there are kids’ models available, too.
If any of the models in this range take your fancy, you’ll need to be quick off the mark – many are selling out fast.
Collaboration with Kobayashi Optical
And if you’re a major league Pokemon fan but are looking for something more subtle in the way of sunglasses and corrective eyewear? You’re well catered for, too, via Pokemon’s collaboration with major eyewear brand Kobayashi Optical.
The glasses in this range feature frames in colors that represent a specific character and also incorporate small images on the armbars.
The Pikachu model has thin, round-shaped metal-rimmed frames and discreet etchings of Pokeballs on the temple tips, nose pads, and hinges. The tiny lightning bolt above the rim is a nice touch, too.
Pokemon Characters Love Sunglasses, Too!
It’s not just fans who love wearing sunglasses – the characters from the animated series enjoy rocking a cool summertime look as well.
Take the Squirtle Squad, who wear matching shades, and Sandile, who is prone to getting flustered if he can’t find his signature sunnies – and Pancham’s sunglasses are an innate part of this particular Pokemon’s personality.
In 2021, Pokemon Go players even got the chance to find a sunglasses-wearing Squirtle as part of an Ed Sheeran event.
While challenging to track down, those who did manage to catch this character loved the fact that, unlike other characters, it could evolve, transforming into a Sunglasses Wartortle or a Sunglasses Blastoise.
Sunglasses-wearing Squirtle first appeared in Pokemon Go for a brief period during 2018 as part of the Community Day, and players who missed out on discovering it then were thrilled to get another chance to seek one out in 2021.
Pokemon Sunglasses: The Takeaway
Whether you or your kid is a Pokemon fan, there are lots of sunglasses options out there to declare your love of the animated series to the world!
Choose from aviator-style glasses to cool shades etched with your favorite character. And if you’re having trouble deciding which pair to choose? Why not collect them all?
