Tridents can be extremely tricky to acquire in Minecraft. Keeping them repaired should be your main priority considering how hard they are to find.

The trident is a solid melee and ranged weapon that also allows players to traverse the world in a more unique way. All these, of course, depend on enchantments, which aren’t easy to get.
If you get good enchantments on a trident, you’ll want to keep it repaired.
In this guide, I will explain how to repair a trident, as well as how to find tridents in Minecraft.
How to Repair Your Trident
There are a few methods to repair a trident. The issue is that tridents cannot be crafted, so repairing them also isn’t easy.
The first method involves placing your damaged, enchanted trident on a crafting table, next to a new, vanilla trident. This will increase the durability of your damaged, enchanted trident at the cost of sacrificing the new trident.
Keep in mind that the first method won’t fully repair a trident’s durability, but will only fix it partially.

The second way is ideal if you don’t have any enchantments on your trident. For this method, you’ll also need a second trident but it doesn’t have to be a new one. Place two damaged tridents in a grindstone and you’ll get back one with full durability.
The third way doesn’t require getting a second trident. However, it does require getting lucky and having a villager farm to get a Mending book. With Mending, the trident will repair itself whenever the player gains XP.
Mending is one of the best enchantments in Minecraft, but it’s also hard to acquire.
How to Find a New Trident

Most methods for repairing a trident require finding a second one. So how do you find a new trident?
The only way to get a trident in Minecraft Java Edition is by killing drowned zombies that hold tridents. The chance of them dropping a trident is 8.5%, so this will require some time and luck.
If you’re playing in Bedrock Edition, any drowned zombie can drop a trident, so make sure to spare none.
If you’re committed and will need more than one trident, you could also consider building a drowned farm. While it’s hard and time-consuming, it’s definitely more efficient than farming 5+ tridents naturally.
Best Trident Enchantments

The trident has 7 possible enchantments in total, but not all of them are useful. Here are the best enchantments that you’ll want on your trident.
- Loyalty – Trident returns to the player after throwing – This is an essential enchantment if you’re using the trident for ranged combat. Now you don’t have to run after it to pick it up.
- Riptide – Throwing the trident at a body of water will transport the player there – Is it an essential upgrade? Not really. But it’s an extremely fun one that makes traversing the Minecraft world a joyful experience.
- Unbreaking – The trident loses less durability per action – Pretty self-explanatory, allows you to use the trident for more actions before having to repair it.
- Mending – The trident repairs itself whenever the player gains XP – As mentioned previously, this is the best way to repair a trident, as long as you can find the mending book.
Conclusion
To sum up, repairing a trident isn’t an easy task. Players will either need to find a second trident, or a mending book.
We’ve through how to repair a trident in Minecraft, how to find tridents in the game, as well as the best enchantments to give them.
