Locked-Room Suspense Meets 1980s Dictatorship: Flower in Us Brings Zero Escape-Style Tension to Steam Today

A new narrative adventure evoking the psychological intrigue of Zero Escape and 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors arrives today on Steam, as PsychoFlux Entertainment releases Flower in Us.

Developed by solo creator Chalkseagull in collaboration with artist carnet and sound designer k’əmgo, this $7.99 indie title thrusts players into a locked basement with a bound woman and a clouded past, forcing difficult choices (and we LOVE difficult choices) as a dark story unfolds.

Mystery and Memory: Can You Trust the Woman You May Have Imprisoned?

Set in an alternate 1980s Korea under authoritarian rule, the game opens with the protagonist regaining consciousness in a basement, memory erased by an attack.

Across the room, a woman is tied to a pillar. She claims to be part of a resistance movement and asserts that the player, allegedly a police officer of the regime, is responsible for her captivity.

The heart of the game is its tense, two-person drama. Players must decide whether to trust the woman – or just play along – as they work together to escape.

Conversations become puzzles: clues are hidden within dialogue, and players must scrutinize every word, reveal found items, and connect with their companion to unlock new information.

As in genre standouts like Danganronpa or AI: The Somnium Files, the story’s suspense is heightened by shifting trust, unreliable memory, and the specter of political violence.

If you’re into adventures, get ready for some nostalgic kicks if you read my article about replaying the original Dune adventure game.

Check the trailer down below to better understand the style and atmosphere in the game:

As players piece together the narrative, the woman’s past comes to light, and the protagonist’s own role within the regime and her fate remains uncertain.

Once the basement’s secrets are revealed, both may find themselves on opposite sides of the law. With branching outcomes, Flower in Us promises a replayable journey shaped by player decisions and by the looks of it, you will want to replay this over and over again to get all endings.
