The much-anticipated pixel-art adventure Primal Planet will launch worldwide on July 28, 2025, on PC via Steam and GOG, according to a notice issued today by indie developer Seethingswarm and publisher Pretty Soon (who also published Backpack Hero).
The release date announcement is accompanied by a brand new trailer, which offers the first look at expanded biomes, an enlarged bestiary featuring a range of dinosaurs, and fresh gameplay sequences.
The trailer also teases a deeper look into the game’s signature wordless, emotionally driven narrative – a story some early players are already comparing to Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Primal” and the emotional beats of Pixar films. Check the trailer below to see for yourself:
Set in a primeval world, Primal Planet casts players as a prehistoric father, tasked with protecting his family at all costs.
While the game’s structure draws on classic metroidvania influences, the narrative distinguishes itself through the absence of dialogue, relying instead on expressive animation, environmental storytelling, and a cinematic score.
The result is a game about parenthood, sacrifice, and hope, told entirely through gameplay. Brings back the good ol’ times, with those nostalgic, classic gaming feels, updated to our modern times.
Players can expect a blend of retro-inspired visuals and modern design, including organic crafting systems, environmental puzzles, and a focus on village care. The game also features optional local co-op, allowing a second player to join as a small dinosaur sidekick.
Primal Planet is developed by Seethingswarm, a one-man studio with a decade of experience in action-adventure game design. The project is published by Pretty Soon, a Poland-based label known for championing solo developers and small teams.
