Left 4 Dead Meets STALKER: Journey Through the Undead Brings Relentless Zombie FPS Action to Steam This Fall

There’s a new zombie shooter vying for your attention on the horizon, and it wants you to earn every bullet.

Indie studio Dazzling Divine is prepping to drop Journey Through the Undead on Steam this fall, and it looks like the kind of FPS that wants you to sweat for every kill. Forget co-op handholding and cozy relaxation: this time, you’re alone, outgunned, and surrounded by the aftermath of a world gone sideways.

Set in a post-apocalyptic nightmare – think “what if Chernobyl had zombies instead of radiation?” – Journey Through the Undead drops you into eerie ruins, abandoned cities, and swamps crawling with mutated horrors.

It’s you versus an endless horde, armed with classic FPS staples: guns, grenades, and melee weapons that’ll have you smashing skulls and blasting limbs from start to finish.

If you clocked hours in Aftertime (Dazzling Divine’s earlier title), you’ll notice familiar vibes. Check the trailer below to see what I mean:

But this is no lazy rehash, as you can see above: Journey Through the Undead is being pitched as a “zombie-only” remix, packing in remastered gameplay, overhauled level design, and graphics that actually make your rig sweat, like cinema-quality models, photorealistic textures, and real-time lighting.

And for the true immersion junkies, you can nuke the HUD with a single key, forcing yourself to play purely by instinct. Now that’s what I call hardcore gaming, and something we don’t see much of nowadays, when “cozyvival” is a thing.

Gameplay is strictly linear, though. No open-world padding or fetch-quest filler here. Each mission drags you from one panic-inducing locale to the next, ramping up the tension between stretches of uneasy calm and pure, chaotic shootouts.

The plot? You’re a lone survivor trying to figure out what the hell went down – and whether anyone else is still breathing. (Spoiler alert: probably not.)

Dazzling Divine is promising all the essentials: brutal gunplay, big explosions (watch those barrels!), and a kill-or-be-killed loop that scratches that classic zombie FPS itch.

Expect to chug medkits and scavenge for food between fights if you want to last more than five minutes. It’s all wrapped in an aesthetic that fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Undawn will eat up, even if it’s a little more arcade than survival horror.

The game is slated for early fall 2025, so wishlist it on Steam now if you’re ready to take on the apocalypse alone.
