Are Dani and Vedinad (Megabonk’s Developer) The Same Person? Everything We Know

In between playing Megabonk, writing about it, and doing actual research, I went down the rabbit hole and ended up in a conspiracy theory. Or, better said, a theory.

And that theory is that Megabonk’s developer, Vedinad is actually another well-known indie developer – Dani, known for Muck, Crab Game, and Karlson, which was once the most wishlisted game on Steam.

So… could vedinad be Dani?

Despite some flaws in this theory, chances are very high that Dani and vedinad are the same person. Here is why:

1. They have the same name

Kind of… but it’s too much of a coincidence to ignore.

“Vedinad” read backwards is “danidev,” which is exactly the name Dani is using on various social media platforms, including his own website.

This could be nothing more than a simply not from one dev to another… but it could be a lot more.

2. YouTube Videos

Dani has a massive YouTube following, while also being active on other social media platforms. We can say that at least part of the massive success his latest releases had was because of the following he built.

And because of the Youtube videos he published showing his work: the videos are funny, quirky, edited in a specific way and, at the same time, engaging.

Now, Vedinad also has a Youtube channel where he only posted two videos, but the one presenting Megabonk is created in a style that’s extremely similar to Dani’s. Again, it could be just a coincidence, or somebody copying something that works… but I think it’s more than that.

Also, Vedinad doesn’t show his face, so that raises another question mark regarding his identity.

Problems here:

1. The description posted on Vedinad’s Youtube channel has a line in which he took inspiration from Dani. This might mean that the two are two different people.

2. Probably the only thing that prevents me from saying 100% that vedinad and danidev are the same person – the voice. There’s no doubt that Dani and the person talking in the Megabonk videos (presumably the developer himself) are two different people.

3. Similar art and design

Megabonk and Dani’s games look very much alike. Everything from the art style to the gameplay and even the design of other graphics (like Youtube thumbnails and other photos) are very similar.

While there is definitely a plethora of games that look like a plethora of other games… in this case, the similar style could mean that the two are the same person.

4. Vedinad own Karlson

Probably the biggest proof that vedinad and Dani are the same person is the fact that the former has Dani’s upcoming game, Karlson, in his Steam Library (as it was revealed in a short published on Youtube).

Since Karlson is not released yet – not even in early access, beta or with any demo available – it can only mean that Vedinad received direct access from Dani. So, at the very least, the two know each other if they’re not the same person.

5. Gut Feeling

Yup, well… that’s clearly not a solid reason, but sometimes it counts.

Even before learning about the claims that the two devs are the same person, I had an interesting feeling about the game. It looked familiar, it felt familiar, but I didn’t know back then what to make out of it.

Conclusion

Now, looking back at everything I wrote above – at the evidence and “coincidences” – I would say that it’s pretty clear and chances are high that Dani and vedinad are the same person.

After all, the voice problem can be easily solved today when AI can do almost anything, but even without it – Dani could’ve brought a friend or even hired an actor to do the voice over.
