The Master Sword is a unique weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that can be acquired early on and shines due to having infinite durability.
However, there is no way to upgrade it currently and its damage is mediocre due to that.
In this guide, I will explain everything you need to know about the Master Sword in TotK, including if you can upgrade it, how much damage can it do, and how to restore its durability.

How to Get the Master Sword in TotK
To get the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom, players will need to locate and mount the Light Dragon that roams the skies of Hyrule.
As long as you have two green stamina wheels, you will be able to pull the Master Sword from the dragon’s head without trouble.
How to Upgrade the Master Sword in TotK
While in Breath of the Wild you could upgrade the Master Sword, things are different in TotK. Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom.
However, in Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword upgrade feature came with The Master Trials DLC. Thus, something similar could happen in TotK. For now, we can only wait for the next DLC.
Master Sword Damage and Durability – Can it Break?
While the Master Sword doesn’t have durability, it can’t be used infinitely. Instead, after using it for a while, the sword will run out of energy and require time to recharge.
In this case, you’ll need to wait 10 real-life minutes until you can use it again. Thus, the Master Sword cannot break in Tears of the Kingdom.
The master sword, for some weird and unspecified reason, does not showcase its exact damage in Tears of the Kingdom.
While we don’t know exactly how much damage it’s dealing, Reddit users have calculated that its damage is overall average.
The master sword is worth it as it combines solid damage with infinite durability, so it’s always a great weapon to carry with you.
Wrapping up
To summarize this Master Sword guide for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Master Sword can’t be upgraded, does not break but requires recharging, and doesn’t showcase its exact damage.
While its infinite durability makes it look appealing, its average damage and lack of upgrades mean that there are better weapons in the game.
