I started, like most people out there, sporting the Knight-Priest-Ranger formation in Task Bar Hero because it made the most sense: you have a tank to soak up the damage, you have a ranged mega-damage dealer, and you have a healer and stat booster to keep everything well oiled.
Well… now I think that this “classic” approach to setting up your best team is wrong. And today I will explain why and what to use instead.
Why Knight-Priest-Ranger is NOT the best choice

Spending way too much time looking at the tiny characters fighting in my taskbar, I realized one important thing: both the Knight and the Priest are melee units.
On higher-difficulty stages, the Priest – who doesn’t naturally have life leech – dies first, and soon after the entire team is destroyed.
On the other hand, even though I had my Ranger run as the best damage dealer possible, overall damage dealt by my team was still relatively low, because the tanky Knight is terrible at dealing damage.
This is when I decided to experiment and found a formation that goes through the stages (or grinds) much faster and is, overall, much better.
Best Task Bar Hero Formation: Priest – Sorcerer – Ranger
While in theory it makes little sense to have your healer go up front and soak up the damage, in practice this works flawlessly.
Pair this with two damage dealers instead of one, and you have a perfectly oiled damage-dealing machine that destroys wave better than the Knight setup does.
It’s still relatively early in my setup, with my characters being at around level 30 at the moment, but since switching to this formation, progress happened a lot faster.
Here is my recommended route for each of the characters and why this formation works:
- Priest: you follow my recommended Priest build – it works perfectly with her as the front character, and you will rarely see her actually get damage. Keep Blessing of Might and Wrath of Heaven as the grinding skills and switch over to Heal when going through the more difficult stages. If you manage to get at least some life leech from her equipment, you’re all set.

- Ranger: she remains the main damage dealer, following my recommended Ranger build. Rapid Fire and Swift Surge are the skills to run early on (before you can switch over to Piercing Shot), and focus on Attack Speed and Projectile damage second.

- Sorcerer: even though he’s a bit behind level-wise, because I ran early on with the Knight, he’s still really good. Focus on Fireball and Flame Hydra as skills, combine them with Fire Damage Enhancement to get the most out of them, and you’re pretty much set as long as you have decent equipment.

Runes are also very important in Task Bar Hero, and I recommend focusing on the damage-related ones (the red ones on the right side of the Rune Tree) once you have everything else set up, like increased gold and XP gains, as well as boosts to chests and such.
Note: For difficult fire-stage levels where your main goal is to progress to the next one, you can switch the Sorcerer’s skills from Fire to Cold in order to max tings out.
Wrapping Up
I also read about people who were successful running single Ranger teams or two-character teams. I will try that when and if I hit a wall, but for now I am extremely happy with my current setup.
If you want to improve your game even more, I recommend reading my Task Bar Hero guide, too.
