There are eight characters in Octopath Traveler 2 and players can only have four in their party. In this tier list, I will rank all characters in Octopath Traveler 2 starting from the weakest and leading to the strongest one.
While some characters are weaker compared to others, no character is overall weak. Even Osvald, who is the lowest on this tier list, can deal phenomenal damage with the right setup.
Additionally, you’ll need to level up every character sooner or later as certain parts of the late game will require you to use all eight of them.

Character Tier List in Octopath Traveler 2
For this Octopath Traveler 2 character tier list, I will take into consideration each character’s powers during the early and late game, and rank them based on how easily they can be replaced by others, and how situational or cost-heavy their skills are.
Without further delay, here’s the tier list for Octopath Traveler:
- S Tier: Partitio, Hikari, Ochette, Castti.
- A Tier: Throne, Temenos.
- B Tier: Agnea, Osvald.
Let’s examine each character in turn.
8. Osvald
Osvald is a great early-game DPS since he can identify enemy weaknesses and deal solid AoE damage. Additionally, his Latent Power and Advanced Magic skill allow him to do great single-target damage to bosses.
However, he can’t reach the damage of other DPS units such as Hikari and Ochette and his value falls off during the late game where you already know enemy weaknesses.
7. Agnea
Agnea shines during the early game as she can deal solid damage and buff teammates with Lion Dance.
The issue with Agnea is that the Dancer job is fairly weak during the mid and late stages of the game. Aside from her Divine Skill and Lion Dance (which can easily be replaced by items or other buffs), she doesn’t offer much to the team.
Especially during the late game where you’ll have many ways to get buffs, Agnea’s only value will come from her secondary job, which means she can be replaced by almost any character.
6. Temenos
Temenos is one of the two healers in Octopath Traveler 2 and shines due to his strong AoE healing skills and solid light damage.
With skills like Heal Wounds and Revive, Temenos can make sure your allies never fall. Also, his Divine Skill allows an ally to act twice for three turns in a row, which is extremely strong for DPS units.
The only reason that he’s not higher on this tier list is that Castti is an even better healer and outshines him during the late game. However, for early-game parties, Temenos can be a huge asset.
5. Throne
Throne is only an average DPS and buffer character on her own, which normally would place her in B tier. However, her Latent Power which allows her to act twice on one turn, makes her shine in certain combos.
Combined with some of the best secondary jobs, Throne can offer great utility overall. Here are some suggestions for Throne’s best secondary jobs:
- Warrior – With multi-hit skills, she can break enemy shields in an instant.
- Apothecary – Apply double buffs or healing effects.
- Dancer – Apply double buffs (Lion Dance).
4. Best Healer in Octopath Traveler 2: Castti
Castti is a great healer that shines during the late game primarily due to her unique Concoct Talent.
With the right materials, Castti can significantly benefit your team by maxing out everyone’s BP on turn one, healing them back to full HP and SP, buffing them, or even debuffing enemies.
The only setback, which places her on the fourth spot in this Octopath Traveler 2 character tier list is that most materials are fairly expensive.
Due to that, Castti primarily shines in the late game where you have Leaves to spare and a solid supply of materials.
3. Best Early-Game DPS in Octopath Traveler 2: Ochette
Ochette is a great DPS unit and overall the best early-game DPS in Octopath Traveler 2.
Her ability to tame beasts allows her to have an answer for every enemy’s weakness and break shields in an instant.
Additionally, with some of the strongest early-game monsters such as the Light Revenant, Ochette can clear enemies that are even 10 levels above her with ease.
Equip Partitio with Speed accessories to ensure he moves first, and have him cast Donate BP to Ochette on turn 1. Then, Ochette will have enough BP to summon the Light Revenant and one-shot all enemies.
The only reason she isn’t on the top of this list is that Hikari requires less setup to deal high damage while Ochette requires Partitio’s buffs and to have already captured the right monsters.
2. Best Late-Game DPS in Octopath Traveler 2: Hikari
Hikari is overall the strongest DPS in Octopath Traveler 2, especially in the late game. His challenge skills allow him to deal insanely high damage that no other character can top.
There’s not much to say here, as numbers speak for themselves. If you haven’t tried Hikari yet, I highly recommend leveling him up ASAP.
1. Best Character in Octopath Traveler 2: Partitio
Partitio is the best character in Octopath Traveler 2. He can fit in any team, offer amazing buffs, and is irreplaceable.
He can donate 3 BP to an ally on turn one, use Hired Help during the early game to defeat harder opponents at the cost of Leaves, and use his Negotiate Schedule EX skill during the late game, which is phenomenally useful and irreplaceable.
Additionally, his Collect skill is a great way to farm Leaves in the early game if you ever find yourself short on money.
The only setback is that his best skills (Hired Help and Negotiate Schedule) cost Leaves to use, and you won’t have many to spare during the early and mid game.
However, for the late game, Partitio will allow you to take down even the hardest boss fights as long as you have enough Leaves.
