To ascend in this game, you must overcome the revolution with offensive units before the timer runs out. If the timer runs out, it will still say you succeeded but your ascension progress will reset, and you will have to repeat it. As for Ascension 2, it is not currently available in the game.

How to Ascend in Microcivilization
To ascend in Microcivilization, start the research ascension and make sure to defeat the revolution once it starts before the timer runs out.
This can get confusing since you must defeat the revolution before the timer is over. If the timer is over, the game will still say that you have overcome the revolution but the ascension research will reset.
This is a bug and even though you get the ‘Overcome the Revolution’ achievement, you don’t progress unless you defeat it in time.
The only way to progress is by clearing the revolution bar with offensive units before the timer runs out. If you fail, your ascension progress will reset and you’ll have to go through it again.

Microcivilization Ascension 2 Guide – Is it Possible?
Even though Ascension 2 can be seen as an option, it is not currently available in Microcivilization. Since the game is in Early Access, some features haven’t been released yet and Ascension 2 is one of them.
This is confusing since the game doesn’t say it anywhere and many players wasted a lot of time trying to find if it’s unlockable. Long story short, it isn’t available yet.
