Final Fantasy XIV Beginner’s Guide: Tips & Tricks to Get You Started

If you’ve ever been eager to play Final Fantasy XIV, then now’s your chance! Considered to be one of the most relevant online games of its generation, FF XIV is slick, well-designed, and filled with immersive content. With the official announcement of a 35 level cap, newcomers can get to play for free and have access to all the wonders of the world of Eorzea without ever having to pay the monthly subscription or even purchasing the game.

If you want more than a taste, however, then you’ll have to pay a $12.99 subscription fee per month. With that, we’ve come up with a definitive guide for beginners who want to explore the world of FFXIV and earn FFXIV currency and FFXIV Gil.

Knowing Which Server to Join

Depending on where you are, there will be different servers to choose from. If you don’t have friends that are in a specific server, then it’s best to look for preferred worlds. These are generally servers that do not have super high populations that Square Enix has set up to give new or transferring players some benefits, like for sample, getting double EXP until you hit level 60 and 10 silver chocobo feathers that you can trade in for goodies.

If you go to a preferred world and you are able to get to level 30, fifteen free days will be added to your account. If there’s a new world that Square Enix had made just recently, you will get 1,000,000 Gil if you reach level 30 in that server in addition to the fifteen free days that you’ll be getting.

If you’re worried about going into a server without many people because of the possibility of not getting matched up with anyone, do not fret. With the data center, you’ll be able to match up with anyone! You’re even able to talk to and group up with others through cross-servers in a data center.

Although you won’t be able to meet up in the world you’re actually in, at least you’ll be able to see each other in dungeons, raids, trials, and so forth.

Picking Your Class/Job

Just like any MMO, there are three roles you can choose from: tank, healer, and DPS. These are all the main classes, but each class has different sub-classes which you can further delve into. Although some of these sub-classes are locked behind the Heavensward expansion, the remaining ones should be more than enough for you to explore and try.

We recommend you pick a job/class that you think would suit you. If you want to have an easier time, then go for tanks. If you want to try mages out and use magical spells, being a healer is your calling. If you want to focus more on ranged attacks or go full melee, then DPS is the right one for you.

Leveling Up

There are various ways of leveling up, but overall it can be a grind fest to get to 50, and even more so to 60 and 70. The most important and best way to level up your first job is to simply go through the story. While there’ll only be a couple of spots where you might need to earn a level or two to progress, each of these main story quests should be more than feasible to get you through the game.

Outside the main story, getting to the first ten to fifteen levels is easy if you go through your Hunting Log. Simply killing a set number of monsters specified in the log will earn you some experience. When you get to around level 16, use your Daily Leveling Roulette as it will help immensely, this goes the same with the Daily Guildfest Roulette.

Earning Gil Fast

FXIV Gil is a precious resource that you will use in the game to buy most items, be it better weapons or crafting materials. The best way to earn this FFXIV currency early on is through mining or harvesting items in the world. While doing so, you will be required to slowly level up your mining and botanist classes. Sure, it might be a tedious grind to do this, but early game mining is the easiest way to earn easy cash!
