Escape From Tarkov BTR Explained – How Does it Work?

Are you trying to understand how the BTR works in Escape From Tarkov and all of its unique features? Let’s go through everything in detail.

In short, the BTR can only be found in the Streets of Tarkov map and offers three services. It can transport you around the map safely, transfer some of your items to your stash, and cover fire against surrounding PMCs.

Let’s explain each feature in more detail.

Where to Find the BTR in Tarkov

BTR explained in Escape From Tarkov.

The BTR is only found on the Streets of Tarkov map and patrols the central districts. It spawns on every raid and you can hear it from afar. It has a specific route that goes around the center of the map and stops at every hotspot for 2 minutes.

Thus, the easiest way to find it is to head to any of the central locations and loot around until you hear it.

Thankfully, the BTR is neutral by default to all players and scavs (unless someone has purchased the cover fire feature) and you can get close to it without worrying. Keep in mind that if it’s moving, it can run you over so don’t go in front of it.

Once it stops, you can interact and enter the BTR. From there, you have three options:

  • Taxi service – Travel to any of the six marked hotspots around the map
  • Move items to stash – Send certain items back to your stash while keeping the Found-in-Raid status
  • Cover Fire – Attack any nearby PMCs

Each service costs Roubles that you’ll need to have on you. Let’s go through them one by one.

BTR Taxi Service

BTR explained in Escape From Tarkov.

The Taxi service allows you to safely travel to any of the following six major locations on the map:

  • Pinewood Hotel
  • Tram
  • Rodina Cinema
  • City Center
  • Collapsed Crane
  • Old Scav Checkpoint

Each has a different cost that depends on where you are currently and your scav karma. A single trip to any destination will cost on average less than 10,000 roubles and can be taken by both PMCs and scavs.

BTR Move items to stash

The item extraction service allows you to transfer items to a small container (size depends on your scav karma). These items will safely reach your stash via mail within the next hour without you having to extract from the raid.

Here’s how many items you’ll be able to transfer based on your scav karma:

Scav Karma (Fence Rep)Trunk Size
0 – 0.995×2
1 – 1.996×2
2 – 2.995×3
3 – 3.996×3
4 – 4.995×4
5 – 5.996×4
6+7×4

As for the cost, you will need to pay Roubles based on the value of your items. High-value items will cost more compared to basic hideout materials and the total price will be decided after you insert all items.

BTR Cover Fire

The BTR Cover Fire service can only be purchased right after buying the Taxi service. For the duration of the trip, the BTR will become hostile to nearby PMCs and will remain hostile until the player leaves the BTR.

Wrapping up

To wrap up this EFT BTR guide, the BTR adds some unique mechanics to the game that allow you to change the way you play during raids.

With the extraction service, you can keep playing without worrying about losing your most valuable loot, while the taxi service allows you to travel between major POIs without worrying about dying.
