Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to Get Hardwood & Wood

Hardwood and wood are essential materials in Disney Dreamlight Valley. They are used for crafting useful furniture like chests or are necessary for quest progression.

The point is that you will need these materials sooner or later. Since you can’t cut trees in Disney Dreamlight Valley, gathering wood and hardwood, especially early in the game, isn’t as easy.

These two materials look fairly similar. Their only difference is that hardwood branches are darker in color compared to wood.

In this guide, I’ll go through how to get hardwood and wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley, as well as highlight some essential items or quests that require them.

How to Get Wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Wood is found almost anywhere in the form of branches lying on the ground. These are usually around trees and can be picked up without any tool.

The only part is that each branch only provides 1 wood, and you’ll need way more than that even for early game items.

Therefore, you may end up waiting for branches to respawn while doing other tasks. Also, keep in mind that wood can be found in every single biome.

Hardwood is the second tier of wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and thus is a bit harder to acquire. This is because it’s located in some of the mid-game biomes. Here are all the biomes that have hardwood:

  • Forest of Valor
  • Frosted Heights
  • Glade of Trust
  • Sunlit Plateau
  • Forgotten Lands

Some of these biomes are unlocked fairly early in the game. For instance, the Forest of Valor should be the second biome you unlock, right after unlocking the Dazzle Beach. Unlocking the Forest of Valor costs 3.000 dreamlight.

While collecting branches is how you’ll gather wood and hardwood at first, there are better methods later in the game.

Specifically, after inviting Anna to the village, and progressing her questline in the Frozen Realm, you’ll unlock an upgrade to your shovel.

This shovel upgrade is how you’ll break all the mushroom-filled wood logs that are all around the village.

Breaking each log will yield multiple branches, split between wood and hardwood. Breaking a few logs will yield you more than enough wood.

Why do You Need Wood and Hardwood

There’s a wide variety of quests that require wood and hardwood. For instance, Moana’s questline requires you to build a boat that needs a solid amount of wood. Or, Elsa’s questline requires you to craft an item that needs hardwood.

However, quests aren’t the only use of wood and hardwood. Many of the furniture recipes you’ll unlock while exploring the realm require these two materials.

The most relevant example is the wooden chest, which requires 10 pieces of wood to craft. And you will need to craft a lot of them if you’re going to maintain a solid supply of materials.

Why a lot? Because in Disney Dreamlight Valley, it’s important to hoard items since you’ll need them sooner or later.

This is especially true for gems and dream shards. Consider checking our guide on some of the best beginner tips for Disney Dreamlight Valley to learn more.

Conclusion

Wood and Hardwood are essential materials for progressing in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Wood can be found anywhere, while hardwood is located only in specific biomes.

Also, upgrading your shovel via Anna’s questline will allow you to gather wood and hardwood by breaking the mushroom-filled wooden logs around the village.
