Atomic Hearts has three distinct weapon types in the game, and choosing the best one might seem a challenge, especially if you’re just starting to play the game. But I am here to help you choose the best, and also tell you why these weapons are top notch.
If you’re looking for a quick answer, skip ahead – I’ll drop my top picks below, based on the current meta, but if you want to know what makes these weapons special – as well as look at a complete tier list – keep on reading!
Quick Picks: The Top Weapons for Each Category
For those of you who are not interested in a detailed explanation, here are your best choices:
- Best Melee: Pashtet.
- Best Energy Weapon: Electro is great early game, but Dominator wins late.
- Best Conventional Gun: Kalash AK-47. Check out my guide on how to get this weapon.
If you want more options, and to better understand why these are the best weapons in the game, keep reading!
Best melee weapon in Atomic Heart: Pashtet

Let’s start with the weapon that never runs out of ammo – the melee. And the Pashtet is the fastest melee weapon in Atomic Heart, and this matters a lot in the game, especially as you upgrade it.
Once you do, it becomes a solid damage dealer as well, matching some of the most powerful melee weapons available, but without any of their drawbacks when it comes to handling and speed.
If you REALLY don’t like it (give it a try though), a close runner up is the Zvezdochka, especially after the latest update.
Now, it got a slight damage buff and has better crowd-control with the right upgrades. If you like clearing mobs or just want something that feels heavy, it’s perfect. I’ve found it especially handy in late-game sections packed with swarms of smaller enemies, but also bosses. Sure, it’s still slow, but it’s good.
And if you’re having trouble finding it, I have a guide sharing where to find Zvezdochka.
Best energy weapon in Atomic Heart: Electro (Then Dominator)

Electro is the first Energy Weapon you will gain in Atomic Heart, and to be honest, you get the best first – at least for a long time during your journey.
Low on resources, highly accurate, and easy to use, it’s the best starter weapon in Atomic Heart. But after a dozen runs, one thing’s clear: the Dominator outshines it in the endgame.
Why Dominator?
- Massive damage scaling: Once you unlock and upgrade it, the Dominator starts erasing tougher enemies, especially bosses, in just a few shots.
- Versatile firing modes: The alternate fire lets you control crowds or focus down a single tough target.
- Patch changes: After several updates, the Dominator’s ammo efficiency improved, and it now feels much more rewarding for players willing to invest resources, outranking Electro for the final stages of the game.
Still, the Electro remains my top pick for the first half of the game. It’s reliable, cost-effective, and ideal for players still gathering crafting materials, but it’s no longer the best weapon overall. So as soon as you can, switch over to the Dominator.

Best gun weapon in Atomic Heart: Kalash AK-47

I wouldn’t go as far as saying the Kalash AK-47 is overpowered, but what it offers in familiarity makes it the best weapon to use, and the one you will turn to most often.
The Kalash AK-47 has a great range, low resource requirements, and impressive accuracy. It allows you to keep your distance from enemies while dealing a steady amount of damage.
With the right upgrades, it will be able to shred through most enemies before they even get the chance to close the distance and launch a counterattack.
But this year, I must mention the Fat Boy (rocket launcher) and the Railgun. Both have seen an uptick in use thanks to late-game balance changes, and they’re both great alternatives in some situations.
The Fat Boy can clear crowds or chunk bosses when you’re in trouble, and the Railgun’s high-damage shots are perfect for specific encounters.
My Opinion: The Electro and the Kalash can still be the only two guns you upgrade throughout the game and they will carry you through almost everything in Atomic Heart.
Conclusion
No matter what the meta says, the best weapon is the one you’re most comfortable with – and you might get better results with different weapons than the ones recommended above.
Yes, I’ve seen people happy about the Snowball, for example, but I believe that the Pashtet, Dominator, and Kalash are still your safest bets right now.
Don’t forget to upgrade them, experiment with mods, and swap in heavy hitters like the Fat Boy or Railgun when the game throws you a curveball.
