Animal Crossing: Starting the Halloween Event

Animal-Crossing-Halloween-Event-Guide-2023-Starting-the-Halloween-Event

On October 1, Jack sent players a letter informing them about Halloween. Players will find attached Jack’s Portrait.

Throughout October, Candy could be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 120 Bells each once a day. Halloween-themed costumes are purchasable from the Able Sisters.

Additionally, villagers can teach players Spooky Series DIY recipes throughout the month, and special body paint and colored eye contacts can be unlocked by spending 2,400 Nook Miles each.

Halloween Night begins promptly at 5 PM on October 31 and concludes at midnight. All players across Northern and Southern Hemispheres will experience the event simultaneously.

Halloween Night Event Activities

Here’s what you can look forward to when Halloween festivities kick off on October 31:

Find and Greet Jack

Jack, the “Pumpkin Czar,” will appear near Resident Services, eager for Candy. By offering him Candy and Lollipops throughout the evening, players can unlock exclusive Halloween items and special costume pieces.

Get Candy & Lollipops

Candy: Stock up on Candy ahead of time to ensure you can interact with villagers and earn the most rewards.

If you’re running low, you can also acquire more Candy from villagers in their homes during the event by wearing a Halloween costume.

Lollipops: These are randomly gifted by villagers in exchange for Candy. They’re particularly valuable, as Jack trades them for rare Spooky Set items.

Halloween Reactions

Earn two Halloween-specific Reactions to add to your collection:

  • Scare: Scare can be learned by giving Candy to any villager.
  • Haunt: Haunt can be learned by giving Candy to Jack

Trick-or-Treating with Villagers

Villagers in costumes will either roam outdoors or stay inside their homes. Outdoor villagers ask for Candy, rewarding you with Spooky Set items or Lollipops. Indoors, villagers offer Candy every few minutes to players dressed in Halloween outfits.

Two Spooky Towers appear outside Resident Services, and some special characters wear the following clothing:

  • Tom Nook: Impish Horns
  • Isabelle: Mage’s Striped Hat
  • Timmy: Flashy Pointy-Ear Animal Hat
  • Tommy: Flashy Round-Ear Animal Hat
  • Mabel: Impish Horns
  • Orville: Mage’s Striped Hat

Exclusive Rewards from Villagers

Trading Candy with your villagers during Halloween Night yields a selection of exclusive Spooky Set items and DIY recipes. Here’s the breakdown of items you can earn:

  • Spooky Garland or Spooky Table Setting
  • Spooky Rug
  • Spooky Flooring or Spooky Wall
  • Spooky Garland DIY recipe (if it’s not yet learned)
  • Spooky Table Setting DIY recipe (if it’s not yet learned)
  • Any unlearned DIY recipe from the Spooky Series

After the villager has given the following items in order, they will have the chance to give the player the following items:

  • 35% chance of a Spooky Candy Set, Spooky Garland, or Spooky Table Setting or an unlearned DIY recipe of a Spooky Candy Set, Spooky Garland, or Spooky Table Setting.
  • 20% chance of a Spooky Flooring, Spooky Wall, or Spooky Rug.
  • 22.5% chance of five non-Orange Pumpkins, or ten Orange Pumpkins if the player hasn’t received a non-Orange Pumpkin.
  • 22.5% chance of ten Orange Pumpkins.

Each time the player gives a villager Candy, the player is more likely to receive a Lollipop.

This is determined by a hidden counter that calculates the amount of Candy the player has given to a villager. Once the player has received a Lollipop, the counter resets to zero.

Here is a table showing how the game counts the chance.

Candy givenItem %Lollipop %
0 Candy Given100%0%
1 Candy Given75%25%
2 Candy Given60%40%
3 Candy Given40%60%
4+ Candy Given0%100%

If the player gives the villager a Lollipop, they will always receive a Spooky Candy Set. If the player refuses to give them Candy, the villager will “trick” the player by applying body and face paint, along with colored eye contacts.

Besides being decorative, Jack’s Face and Jack’s Robe will trick villagers into thinking the player is Jack if both are worn, and the villager will give the player Candy regardless of whether they have already done so.

However, each villager will only be fooled once. The outfit will also allow players to not be chased by villagers.

These were all the Villager changes players can expect in the 2024 Halloween Event for Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: Jack’s Halloween Introduction

Animal-Crossing-Halloween-Event-Guide-2023-Jack's-Halloween-Introduction

Halloween is an event in the Animal Crossing series that is celebrated on October 31. During the event, Jack, the self-proclaimed Czar of Halloween, appears at night.

Jack will be seen walking around near Resident Services, and players can talk to him, and give him Candy or Lollipops.

Giving Jack Candy will cause the player to receive the following items:

  • 30% chance of a Jack’s Face or Jack’s Robe.
  • 35% chance of five non-Orange Pumpkins, or ten Orange Pumpkins if the player hasn’t received a non-Orange Pumpkin.
  • 35% chance of ten Orange Pumpkins.

Giving Jack a Lollipop, the player is able to receive the following items in order:

  • Spooky Carriage
  • Spooky Carriage DIY recipe (if it’s not yet learned)
  • Spooky Wand DIY recipe (if it’s not yet learned)

After getting all these rewards, you will either be given Jack’s Face or Jack’s Robe.

Maximizing Your Candy Supply on Halloween Night

Running out of Candy in the game? There are repeatable methods for collecting more throughout the evening, ensuring players don’t miss out on any rewards:

  1. Villager Homes: Visit indoor villagers while dressed in Halloween attire, and they’ll give you Candy each time you interact (with a cooldown).
  2. Outdoor Villager Bonus: If your Candy inventory is empty, talking to an outdoor villager will yield three free Candy on the first interaction.
  3. Jack’s Robe and Face Trick: Wearing both of these pieces fools villagers into giving Candy without requiring any from you, though this trick works only once per villager.
