That’s obviously not a nice thing to go through, but worry not – today, I will tell you everything you need to know about dealing with rats in the game.
The quick answer is that rats in Amnesia: The Bunker can be defeated using weapons, a Grenade/Flare, but also distracted using Meat or a Torch. If bodies are present nearby, they will come back. To avoid that, you will need to burn the bodies.

All Methods to Destroy Rats in the Game
Rats are a serious problem in the game as they block off certain key paths. You’ll need to kill them, scare them away, or at least distract them temporarily if you want to get through.
I already told you the basics, but now it’s time to get a bit more in-depth with each method.
1. Craft and light a Torch to scare them away – You can craft a Torch by combining a Stick and a piece of Cloth and igniting it with the Lighter. To craft a Stick, combine two pieces of Cloth. Then equip it and move towards the rats – they will scatter away when you get close.
2. Shoot them – This is a solid, permanent method, but requires plenty of bullets since you’ll need to shoot them one by one. Since ammo is hard to come by, it’s best to avoid this method and keep those valuable bullets for shooting the Beast.
3. Use Meat – One of the items you can find around the Bunker is Meat. The main purpose of this item is to throw it near the rats to distract them and move past the blocked path.
4. Use a Flare or Grenade – Using a Flare will scare the rats away, while a grenade will kill them. Again, these might be valuable for other encounters, especially if you have a torch or Meat.
So, overall, the best method to deal with rats in Amnesia: The Bunker is using Meat to distract them, followed by lighting your Torch to scare them away. Keep the ammo and grenades for more important encounters.
One thing to keep in mind is that rats will also appear when the player is bleeding and low on health. Due to that, make sure to always have a Bandage on you and heal any injuries.
Rats also gather near dead bodies. If you decide to scare away the rats, they will come back after a short while unless you burn the nearby body. Let’s see how to do that.
How to Burn Bodies in Amnesia The Bunker
To stop rats from coming back after you scare them away, you’ll need to burn the nearby body. To burn a body in Amnesia The Bunker, equip Fuel (normally used in the generator) and pour it on the body. Then, ignite it with the Lighter and that’s all.
However, this isn’t recommended early in the game as Fuel is hard to come by, and it’s essential to keep the generator running at all times.
After progressing enough and finding the Fuel Storage room, you will have fuel to spare to burn bodies and clean your surroundings.
The Fuel Storage room can be found in the Maintenance area, at the bottom right corner.
To access the Maintenance area, you’ll first need to find the Valve Handle and lift the lockdown in Amnesia The Bunker.
