Octopath Traveler 2: Best Monsters to Capture

Ochette can capture monsters to gain increased combat capabilities and varying types of attacks while fighting enemies.

However, there are way too many monsters in the game and players can only capture a limited amount.

In this Octopath Traveler 2 guide, I will mention the best monsters to capture for the early and mid/late game.

Before taming beasts, consider checking out my in-depth character guide on Ochette and how to make her the strongest main DPS in the game.

Capturing beasts in Octopath Traveler 2 is fairly straightforward and only requires unlocking Ochette.

Then, you can use her talent at any point during the fight and you’ll have a chance to capture the beast. Also, there is a way to increase the capture chance up to 100%. Here’s everything you should do to increase a beast’s capture chance:

  1. Bring them to red HP.
  2. Break their shield.
  3. Reveal their weaknesses.

Ochette also has a skill named “Mercy Strike”, which will never kill enemies and it’s ideal for leaving them with 1 HP.

2. Light RevenantCavern of Waves, Toto’hahaSword, Bow, Staff, DarkDeals 9,999 damage to all enemies and buffs all party members’ physical and elemental defense.

To find the Cavern of Waves, travel to Toto’haha Beasting Bay and ride a boat while heading west.

As for how to defeat these over-leveled enemies (they will be around level 48), there is one easy way even if you’re only level 20. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Have Partitio, Temenos, and Ochette in your party.
  2. Make sure Partitio has unlocked the Hired Help: Guard skill and has his Lantent Power ready.
  3. Keep searching the cave until you find a Light Revenant/Throne Guardian that’s solo (not in a group of monsters).
  4. Use Partitio’s skill Hired Help: Guard and select the Guards that cost 7,000 with max BP boost. Then Ochette will be able to capture the monster with a 100% capture rate.

If you find the monsters in a group, use Partitio’s Hired Help: Guard skill with one less BP charge since monsters in groups have less max HP and you want to avoid killing them.

However, this will leave all monsters alive and you’ll have to find a way to survive the fight after capturing the one you want.

Wrapping up

To sum up this Octopath Traveler 2 guide, these are the best beasts to capture for Ochette during both the early and mid/late stages of the game.

The early ones can be captured as soon as you unlock the required characters and get their skills, while the mid/late ones require leveling up.

If you want to aim for the mid/late-game ones and aren’t high enough on level, consider checking out my guide on how to level up fast.
