Open the main menu and navigate to the Gear tab. From there, change your gear from any of the six gear slots. This includes the following options:

  1. Handwear
  2. Facewear
  3. Headwear
  4. Neckwear
  5. Cloaks and Robes
  6. Outfit

Any gear equipped in these slots will offer Offence and Defence stats, as well as certain traits. Keep an eye on your gear section and make sure to always equip the strongest gear you have.

However, equipping the strongest gear will make your character look weird as most pieces won’t match. Thankfully, there’s an easy way to fix this.

How to Change Clothing Appearance in Hogwarts Legacy

After equipping your strongest gear, you can change your clothing appearance easily.

Navigate on the gear slot that you wish to change each appearance (e.g. cloaks and robes), and instead of pressing X on PlayStation/A on Xbox to change gear, press Square on Playstation/X on Xbox to change appearance.

This will allow you to keep the gear you have equipped and its stats while changing only its appearance.

This way, you can have the strongest set equipped, and skin everything to look like the Dark Arts set.

The only minor issue here is that you’ll have to change your clothing appearance every time you change your gear. If you find a stronger piece of gear during your next quest, you’ll have to change its skin again.
