Bug catching is a unique activity in Coral Island that gives players a different way to use their energy.
The bug net is a reward for one of the early-game quests, while bugs generally are a great way to fill the museum and earn money.
If you’re just starting in Coral Island, consider checking out our guide on how to craft a makeshift scarecrow.
It is needed for one of the first quests and will help protect your crops from unwanted visitors.
In this guide, I will explain how to unlock the bug net in Coral Island and how to use it to catch bugs.
How to Unlock Bug Net
Unlocking the bug net requires completing the early game quest ‘Visit the Beach Shack’.
Players need to complete the first quests ‘Starting Out’ and ‘Home Sweet Home’ to unlock this quest.
After completing these two, they will get a message in their mailbox asking them to visit the beach shack.
Keep in mind that you can only visit the beach shack between 9am and 5pm every day except Tuesdays.
After visiting the beach shack, Eleanor and Sunny will talk about the benefits of bug catching and fishing. At the end of the dialogue, they will award the player with a fishing rod and a bug net.
And that’s it. Now you’re ready to start catching bugs. But how do you find bugs in Coral Island?
How to Find Bugs
The first step after acquiring the bug net is locating bugs. They can be found almost anywhere, as long as the area isn’t crowded.
Some great locations include the beach and the mines. Also, bugs can be found all over the village, as long as there aren’t many villagers around.
Nighttime, after everyone’s at their homes, is a great time to look out for bugs. Now that you’ve located a bug, let’s see how to use the bug net to catch it.
How to Catch Bugs
With the bug net in hand and a bug located nearby, it’s time for action. With the bug net equipped, slowly approach the bug while holding the left click.
Holding the left click causes the player to crouch walk and approach the bug slowly. This makes it easier to get close without scaring the bug.
However, it’s still possible to scare bugs. This is because some bugs are scared more easily than others. The key part here is patience.
Approach slowly, and if an exclamation mark appears on top of the bug then stop and wait for it to calm down.
When you manage to get close enough, release the left click and make sure the bug is within the cone-shaped area in front of you. And that’s it! You’ve caught your first bug.
But what do you do with the newly-caught bug?
What to do with Bugs?
After catching a bug, your options are fairly limited. First, try and donate it to the museum. Some bugs count as artifacts and will help you fill the museum faster.
Without spoiling anything, filling the museum is a key part of the main story in Coral Island.
If you can’t donate it to the museum, then selling it is your best bet. Some bugs are especially expensive and are a great way to make some extra money.
Conclusion
To sum up, this is how to unlock the bug net and catch bugs in Coral Island. Progress through the early quests until you’re asked to visit the beach shack.
Then, with the bug net in hand, hold the left click to slowly approach bugs and release to catch them when you’re close enough.
While unlocking the bug net, you’ll also receive the fishing rod. Consider checking out our guide on how to fish in Coral Island.
