There was a new Nintendo Direct today, and in case you missed it we’ve got a quick run down for you right here!
The Direct started off with the Nintendo 3DS. The first piece of big news are the new features of the upcoming Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon. New ultra beasts, new story sequences, and more! There’s a treat for old school fans as well – Pokemon Gold & Silver are now available on the Nintendo eShop!
Afterwards we got a sneak peak at the new Mario and Luigi adventure Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions. The game is a full remake of the original GBA game, and it features an all-new side story mode based on Bowser’s minions!
A new Kirby fighting game is also coming to the 3DS! Taking the top-down view of Kirby Blowout Blast and mashing it with the fighting of Kirby Fighters Deluxe, Kirby: Battle Royale is the ultimate pink puffball showdown! It’s even got online play, a first for Kirby!
And of course, Metroid: Samus Returns is featured one last time before its official launch on September 15. Journey to the center of SR388 in this reimagining of the Gameboy classic, and eliminate the metroids!
Now, onto Switch news. First we got a detailed preview at the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which showed off the core battle system mechanics and revealed some of the background lore and story. The game seems to use the same MMO-style combat system as the previous two games.
Splatoon 2 will be receiving new – and old – maps! Kelp Dome from the original Splatoon is making a return, while Snapper Canal is an all-new map. There’s also new weapons to try out too, like the Tenta Brella! ARMS is also receiving a new stage and fighter, Lola Pop! As an added bonus, you can now customize your controls to however you like.
While we knew the existence of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we also heard from Bethesda that were still more titles planned for the Switch. In a move no one saw coming, both Doom (2016) and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are headed for the Switch!
From Square-Enix, we got an official trailer for Project Octopath Traveler, a new RPG from the team that created Bravely Default. We’re really digging the art style, with the 2D character sprites on 3D backdrops. Looks really slick! In addition to that, Dragon Quest Builders is coming to the Switch as well.
To end the Direct on a big note, we got a new trailer for both Kirby Star Allies and Super Mario Odyssey. They both look great and 2018 is already shaping up to be a great year for the Switch!
