In one of the final boss fights in Hogwarts Legacy, players are called to face Ranrok who takes the form of a fiery dragon.
To defeat Ranrok Dragon, players will need to utilize spells of all categories to break the shields above the boss and then deal as much damage as possible before the shield comes back up.
In this Hogwarts Legacy guide, I will explain how to defeat the Ranrok Dragon boss fight and showcase any mechanics you’ll need to know.
How to Defeat Ranrok Dragon in Hogwarts Legacy
The boss’ HP is split into three parts, each signifying a different phase.
During all three phases, the boss will attack you with various attacks.
- Flamethrower – Keep running around and avoid stepping on the fire that remains on the ground
- Blockable projectile – Use protego at the right time to block it.
- Unblockable projectile – Same move as the above one, with the only difference being it can’t be blocked
- Explosion – The boss folds its wings and charges an AoE attack. Run as far back as possible to avoid taking any damage.
One helpful tip for dodging Ranrok’s attacks is to focus on the boss’ movement, not on the yellow/red blocking circle that appears above you.
This is because this boss’ attacks are fairly quick and players will have minimal time to react if they focus only on the circle.
Ranrok Boss Fight Phase 1
During phase 1, players won’t be able to see Ranrok’s HP unit until they break the shield bubble that will appear near him.
This shield bubble can appear in three varieties and based on its color, it will require a different type of spell to break:
- Yellow – Use Control Spells (Arresto Momentum, Glacius, Levioso, Transformation).
- Purple – Use Force Spells (Accio, Depulso, Descendo, Flipendo).
- Red – Use Damage Spells (Confringo, Diffindo, Expelliarmus, Bombarda, Incendio).
Use any of the spells in that category to break the shield bubble and then you’ll be able to damage Ranrok normally.
For this part, use the best spell combos in the game to deal maximum damage and utilize any Ancient Magic charges you have.
Ranrok Boss Fight Phase 2
When Ranrok’s HP reaches the second bar, phase 2 will begin. The boss will move to the next part of the arena, which is just left of the first part. Jump down the ledge and the second phase will begin.
For this part, the fight is the same with the only difference being that players will need to break two shield bubbles in quick succession before being able to damage Ranrok.
Ranrok Boss Fight Phase 3
Phase three is split into two parts. For the first part, players will need to break three shield bubbles surrounding Ranrok.
Halfway through this phase, Ranrok will say “This cannot be happening. You will die!”, and then move to the middle of the arena and stay grounded.
For this part, players will need to break four shield bubbles in quick succession. After that, reaching Ranrok’s HP to 0 will complete the boss fight.
