Contraband Police: Arrest or Release Gavrilov? [What to do]

During one of the early-game quests in Contraband Police, players are tasked with following Gavrilov to his house. There, they have a chat with Gavrilov and are asked to decide whether they should arrest him for his crimes, or release him and work with him.

This is a very important decision in the game as it will affect your entire playthrough. Arresting him will have you play the normal story where you’ll work as a normal border inspector.

Releasing Gavrilov will lead you into the rebel storyline, where you’ll work with him to take down the corrupt government you work for.

In this Contraband Police guide, I will explain whether you should arrest or release Gavrilov by showcasing the story routes that follow each option.

During the early game, you’ll be informed that Gavrilov, a known rebel, has been spotted near Vlad’s Tools and you’ll have to track him down. After finding and following him, you’ll end up in his cabin in the woods.

There, Gavrilov will invite you for a chat and give you the option to either arrest or release him.

Choosing to arrest or release Gavrilov in Contraband Police will be the most important choice you’ll make as it will affect the entire story and the ending of the game.

Overall, there is no right or wrong choice here. Each option leads to a different story path and tells a different tale. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which route you want to take.

To help you decide, I will mention what happens on each of the two routes.

On the one hand, if you choose to arrest Gavrilov, the story will continue normally and you’ll be a legal and proper post inspector. You’ll keep working for the government and follow the government route.

For this route, your main gameplay will involve checking cars, arresting criminals, and collecting contraband while making legal money. Pretty much the same as what happened during the first few days.

If you choose this path, you’ll be making less money overall as your earnings will depend solely on your salary.

Overall, this is the more “boring” playthrough, as you’re trying to play fair by the rules of a corrupt government. But what’s the other option?

On the other hand, arresting Gavrilov will lead you to the rebel storyline where you’ll follow the immoral route.

For this route, you’ll end up acting immorally against your government by collaborating with rebels, framing innocents, and sabotaging the government.

This adds a surprising new twist to the game and lets you focus on a completely different range of activities which, among others, will allow you to make some extra money on the side.

Releasing Gavrilov allows for a more unique story and will allow players to get the “better” ending in Contraband Police where they go against the corrupt government.

Wrapping up

To summarize this Contraband Police guide, in the debate of arresting or releasing Gavrilov, I recommend releasing him since it will add more activities to the game and spice things up.

Another option is to play the game twice and try out both options. This way, you’ll be able to experience both routes and then decide which is better.

What did you decide to do with Gavrilov? Are you planning to replay the game to try both routes? Let us know in the comments below.
