Elden Ring masterfully blends brutal, difficult combat with an amazing open world that we all love to explore, no matter how painful it is. While the game itself is amazing and delivers a lot, you can never have enough.
So if you’re feeling like playing something similar – maybe after completing the game, for example – I am here to help by sharing the best games like Elden Ring. Let’s jump right in!
The Dark Souls Series
Of course, if you haven’t done so already already, the first series of games to try is Dark Souls (or, truly, any FromSoftware game). I highly recommend Dark Souls III as it’s closer to Elden Ring than the others, but the entire franchise is worth playing.
These games are the spiritual predecessors to Elden Ring, and you’ll find many familiar mechanics and themes. And brutal boss battles. You can check out some of the best bosses in Dark Souls over at Social Games Help.
Nioh 2
Nioh 2 strongly resembles Elden Ring with its intense and challenging combat mechanics and its steep learning curve.
Also, it’s a prequel to Nioh 1, so there’s no reason to start from the first game – but you can definitely play both if you want extra content that’s similar to Elden Ring.
Back to Nioh 2, the game shares the challenging combat and RPG elements, with an added emphasis on loot and character builds, while taking the Soulslike formula and mixing it with Japanese folklore and fast-paced combat.
Bloodborne
Aggressive, fast-paced combat taken to more modern times (you’re using firearms instead of shields and swords, for example – although you do have a solid alternative to the latter too!) and with interesting gameplay mechanics.
You still get a dark, Lovecraftian setting filled with werewolves, eldritch horrors, and twisted citizens. Note that this is a PlayStation exclusive.
Code Vein
Code Vein is Elden Ring but with anime graphics. It features similarly challenging gameplay, intense combat, and hard-to-beat enemies and bosses.
It has a huge focus on character builds and a more detailed storyline than Elden Ring but features a similarly dark open world with an eerie vibe.
And if you’re already feeling that you have too much on your plate, you can opt in for slightly less frustrating gameplay with any of the games on my list of the Best Police & Detective Video Games.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Created by the same company behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring, Sekiro challenges you to ditch the swords and sorcery for katanas and shinobi prosthetics.
As you would expect from a game created by the same minds behind Elden Ring, you get a brutal difficulty level, intense boss battles (but with a focus on verticality and mobility), and plenty of gruesome deaths.
The game introduces a posture system instead of traditional stamina and is a great alternative to ER.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is a co-op open-world RPG where players team up and fight tough enemies to level up and strengthen their characters.
If you want engaging boss fights similar to Elden Ring but with a bigger focus on co-op gameplay and leveling, the Monster Hunter series in general includes many great options. Overall, Monster Hunter: World is the best starting point for the series.
Outward
Outward is on this list primarily due to its combat that resembles Elden Ring. Other than that, it’s a completely different game.
If you want Elden Ring combat combined with open-world, survival, and RPG elements where you build and upgrade your base Minecraft-style, Outward is a great game to try with friends.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order & Jedi: Survivor
I’m going for a two-in-one approach here to save some scrolling space and because these games are similar since Jedi Survivor is the sequel to Fallen Order. And they both feature combat that will make Elden Ring players feel at home.
But if you want a less punishing game that still has its fair share of difficulty and unique boss fights and also is in the Star Wars genre, Fallen Order & Jedi Survivor are must-try.
Remnant 2
Remnant 2 is the sequel to Remnant From the Ashes. It’s a soulslike game with a similarly dark and eerie vibe as Elden Ring. The main difference is that Remnant 2 focuses more on ranged combat and build specialization/variety.
If you want Elden Ring with guns, Remnant 2 is a must-try. We also have plenty of guides for the game, like How To Get The Necklace of Flowing Life or the Glistering Cloister Puzzle Solution. And if you start a new game, check out the Remnant 2 Best Ritualist Build or our favorite, the Remnant 2: Best Apocalypse Build.
Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen is a soulslike game taking place in a Dark Fantasy world. It features a dark atmosphere, a unique audio track, and a creepy world design filled with terrifying enemies and bosses. In other words, the perfect alternative to ER.
Overall, while its world isn’t as large as Elden Ring’s, it has many similar features and is worth trying. If you do decide to give it a try, I’ve got you covered with plenty of guides, out of which I recommend the Best Strength Build in LotF, the Best Dark Crusader Build, the overall Best Build for Beginners in Lords of the Fallen or a guide to the best rings in the game.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a mix between the Dynasty Warrior series and Elden Ring. It features a Three Kingdoms-themed story with warriors and combat inspired from Ancient China, during the Three Kingdoms era.
Similar to Elden Ring, it’s a soulslike game that stands out due to its difficulty, unique boss mechanics, and great combat. Battle demons and monsters from Chinese folklore using mainly martial arts fighting mechanics.
And if you need some help with the game, you can check out our previous guides, like the list of the Best Fire Spells in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, the Best Wood Virtue Build, or the Best Water Virtue Build.
Salt and Sanctuary
Although older than most games on this list, Salt and Sanctuary must be mentioned, as many consider it the “2D Dark Souls” which make it a great Elden Ring Alternatives.
With over 20 epic boss fights available in the game, fully customizable characters and a punishing difficulty level, this remains a solid game to play if you haven’t done so already – and especially if you’re looking for something similar to ER.
Lies of P
Lies of P puts you in the role of a dark, reimagined Pinocchio navigating the eerie city of Krat. Expect brutal, Soulslike combat, plenty of weapon customizations and a unique lying system that affects your humanity and the game’s outcome.
For gamers who crave a challenging adventure with a unique twist, Lies of P is a standout title that shouldn’t be missed, no matter if you’re actively looking for Elden Ring alternatives or not.
Black Myth: Wukong
Black Myth: Wukong is based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. You set out as the Destined One to uncover the truth behind legends while battling enemies and exploring the beautiful world.
Featuring breathtaking visuals and challenging, Soulslike combat, it offers the intense experience that fans of Elden Ring adore, but set within the rich narratives of Asian folklore.
Enotria: The Last Song
Last but not least, we have the most recent game on our list, and one that offers a solid ER alternative thanks to its incredible battle mechanics, but also unique concepts – like the Masks system that lets you basically change builds and alter your personality.
This time, we’re moving away from Chinese and Asian mythology, and going into Italian folklore instead – which alone comes as a breath of fresh air.
As the Maskless One, you seize the masks of fallen foes to adopt their roles and abilities on the fly – and that comes in handy, as various enemies should be approached differently.
If Elden Ring’s depth and challenge captivated you, Enotria’s innovative mask-swapping mechanics and its bright yet enigmatic world will certainly do the same, even though you’re getting a somewhat less typical Soulslike adventure.
This concludes our list of the best games like Elden Ring. Thankfully, there are many options in the Soulslike genre, but I’ve included the best options only (otherwise, this list would’ve gone on forever).
