Dustland Delivery: Characters & Team Building Guide

Building the perfect character, then recruiting some more for the perfect team in Dustland Deliver might seem overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the game.

While trial and error will help you understand the game’s mechanics better, we can speed that up with today’s guide to the in-game characters and especially for building the perfect team in Dustland Delivery.

First things first: creating your character in Dustland Delivery

For your first playthrough, I recommend choosing the ready-made Runner. He has great stats related to your truck (10% more driving speed), but also decent Attack and Fitness.

Work a bit on upgrading their Speech and maybe Intellect afterwards, and you have a really nice character to start with.

After your first couple of playthroughs, you can start playing with the character creation system to make your own, but even then I recommend staying away from the Troublemaker and Stinky negative traits, which are really bad as they can get you kicked out of the Bars and Inns, and that’s a major disadvantage.

Building the perfect team in the game

Dustland Delivery team setup

Now that we’ve got the main character out of the way, let’s focus on building the perfect team in Dustland Delivery to ensure long-lasting survival.

The first mistake most people do when starting to play the game is trying to fill up all the team slots ASAP. But if you do so, especially early on, you will probably struggle with the food and water.

Speaking of food – make sure to also check out my previous guide covering all the Dustland Delivery cooking recipes and try to only cook the best ones in the game.

Back to the team composition, early on you can focus on a crew of two people and increase it as you hoard up more resources. I personally like to choose good high-Attack players early on, like the Sharpshooter or Enigma, but characters like the Programmer or Instructor are good to be had.

IMPORTANT! When building your team, know that the sum of ALL your crew’s Attack stats is calculated when resolving in-game events.

Opposed to that, we have Intellect, Cooking, Focus and Crafting, which are calculated based on the highest attribute in your group.

Finally, Speech, Hunting and Fishing are calculated based on the average values between your crew.

This makes Attack one of the most important skills to look at, in my opinion. On the other hand, skills like Foraging (also the sum of all crew stats is taken into account) are useless. Intellect, Focus and Cooking come next, but a character with high stats in each area is usually enough.

So an ideal team of four, in my opinion, would be something like Enigma, Sharpshooter, Programmer and Mechanic.

Other great characters (mix and match to your liking) are the Vagrant, Instructor, Broken Robot or Marksman.
