City of Heroes: Leveling Guide

This leveling guide in City of Heroes will go through everything you need to know on how to level up as a new or returning player.

If you’re a returning player and want to level up as quickly as possible, AE farming is your best bet. However, if you’re new to the game, it’s better to experience all available content in turn by focusing on Contracts and Trials.

Without further delay, here’s everything you should know regarding leveling up quickly and easily in CoH.

How to Level Up in City of Heroes

Leveling up is a bit more complicated compared to other games. To level up in CoH, check the number next to the series of bars in the top-right corner of your screen.

As you play and earn XP, the bar will fill up; once it’s full, you’ll get a pink square next to your level. You will need to completely surround your level with pink squares to level up.

CoH Leveling Guide – How to Level Up Fast

When starting out, there are various ways to level up quickly. First, until level 5, I recommend spamming the Death From Below (DFB) dungeon, which is ideal for low-level characters.

After that, the best way to level up in City of Heroes is Architect Entertainment (AE) farms. AE is a huge building that can be found in various locations and involves custom-made dungeons and raids made by players that award XP.

Overall, there is no specific AE farm that you should do. Simply use the search filter and find the most popular one that fits with your current level and build.

To make this even easier, albeit slower, there are also AFK farms where you can just leave your character there and farm XP.

However, if you’re a new player, I don’t recommend using AE farming a lot. It will take away a big part of the game’s content and will make the process faster but less enjoyable overall.

If you’re new, your best bet is progressing through Contracts and completing Trials as you unlock them. This way, once you reach Incarnate Trials, you’ll be familiar with most of the game’s content and be able to progress into late-game stuff.

Wrapping up

To wrap up this City of Heroes leveling guide, the fastest way to level up is by spamming the AE farming method.

However, if you’re a new player, pursuing contracts and trials as you unlock them is the best way to progress without missing any important content.
