Overall, there are many characters that you can recruit to join you, and you can find them around the open world based on the tiger on the right of their name.
In this guide, I will list all party members in Wandering Sword and showcase where to find them and how to unlock them.

All Party Members in Wandering Sword and How to Unlock and Recruit Them
There are over 15 recruitable characters in Wandering Sword and here’s how to find, unlock, and recruit each of them:
Wei Huo
Wei Huo is the first character you’ll recruit and that’s achieved simply by following the tutorial quest.
Bai Jin
Bai Jin can be recruited after meeting him in Luo Village. Complete his quest to Mt. Wanzai, and then progress his other quest in Petalsfall Forest.
Lastly, raise his affinity to 60 and he’ll join your team.
Kong Liang
To recruit Kong Liang, find him on the east side of Yanfu City. Meet him and complete his quest to have him join your party.
Keep in mind that if you progress too far in the main story, you won’t be able to find him or recruit him at all.
Shangguang Hong
For Shangguang Hong, after collecting toad skins and beating the toad boss in Murkwood Forest, you will meet her in Pingkang City.
Raise her affinity and complete the quest at Qingmu Sect to get the chance to spar with her. Upon defeating her, Shangguang Hong will join your party.
Sima Ling
To recruit Sima Ling, complete Sangguang Hong’s questline and learn about the Baidi whirling blade.
Then, you’ll need to increase her affinity and that’s all.
Leng Wuqing
To have Leng Wuqing join your party, meet him at Qianling Pier, then at Leijia Village, and then at Mount Lian’gu. Progress his pirate quest and follow him to the next location to recruit him.
Ye Fei
To recruit Ye Fei, progress Leng Wuqing’s pirate quest until you meet Ye Fei at Lotus Lake.
After a tough fight, regardless of winning or losing, you’ll be able to recruit him.
Lu Xian’er
On the right side of Gusu City, you’ll find a polearm lady named Lu Xian’er and a quest will start where you can either watch or ignore the scene.
Choose watch, win the fight, and visit Wutong Village to meet with the Polearm Lady and recruit her.
Ogre
To recruit the red-haired ogre, visit Yanfu town and find him in the back side of the area. Accept the quest of the lady next to him, complete it, and interact with the Ogre when available.
After all interactions, you’ll be able to recruit him.
Huo Changqing
To recruit Huo Changqing, find her in Fengcheng in the inn, progress her quest, and make sure to win all upcoming fights.
You will need to increase her affinity slightly and then you’ll be able to recruit her.
Frosty Condor
To recruit Frosty Condor in Wandering Sword, complete the quest that requires stopping the bandits in Sweetspring.
Then, travel back to Eagles Sorrow and you’ll be able to unlock her by talking to her in her school.
Di Zui
To recruit Di Zui, progress Kong Liang’s quest as well as the Sweetwater quest (unlocked in Act 3, after the Changjiang Fortress). After progressing both of them, you’ll have enough affection to recruit him.
Chen Lenxi
Find the Chief guard at the entrance of Pingkang City and take his city in the ongoing argument. Chen will show up and ask that you visit him in his martial club in Pingkang.
Keep in mind that during his personal quest, you will have to let him get taken by the detective.
Win all the fights, raise his affinity to 60, and you’ll be able to recruit him.
Other Recruitable Characters in Wandering Sword
There are also three more recruitable characters: Li Yuanxing, Yan Weihuan, and the Puppet Lady. I haven’t found how to recruit them yet but they seem to be tied to each other.
If you progress Li Yuanxing’s quest, you’ll unlock Yan Weihuan. If you progress Yan Weihuan’s quest, you’ll find the Puppet Lady. If you have any information about these characters, feel free to share them in the comments below.

Yuancheng, the disciple by the stairs at Wudang’s dorm area, usually comments whenever there’s something going on around the world, usually when you have to get points to rank up, at some point when you get a word about the beggar’s sect, you should head there and trigger Li, Yan and XiaoXiao quest line. But you shouldnt trigger the battle, you should investigate as pointed and questioned by the MC and THEN you’ll find the real plot behind the quest opening a path to recruit those 3. After Yan and Xiaoxiao leave, take the boat to the west, into the jianang port area to trigger a battle. After that, not sure if you need to finish Jianang main quest line, but you can find’em again at Bramble shade forest, if you did everything and killed the optional bosses at the end of beggar’s quest and the jianang port area, and Yan will join. Still working on Xiaoxiao(puppetlady)
