The Blood Moon is an event in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that triggers every seven in-game days.
This event offers players a cooking buff while it’s active. When it’s over, it causes weapons, materials, ores, and monsters to respawn.
The normal way to cause a Blood Moon in TotK is to wait for seven in-game days. However, there is a way to force the Blood Moon to occur at any point by using a certain glitch.
In this guide, I will explain how to force the Blood Moon in Tears of the Kingdom by using a specific glitch. Also, I’ll showcase how to skip the Blood Moon completely in case you want to avoid it.

How to Force the Blood Moon in Zelda TotK
Currently, there is a bug in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom that allows players to summon the Blood Moon whenever they want.
This glitch requires significantly increasing the memory load of the game to the point where the rapid increase causes a Blood Moon.
Specifically, here’s how to force a Blood Moon event in TotK:
- Travel to Tanagar Canyon West Cave.
- Enter the cave until you go past the blue rocks – check the screenshot above.
- Climb enough to activate Bullet Time when you jump.
- Shoot four Opal Arrows at the wall in front of you.
- The Blood Moon will trigger automatically when you land.
Keep in mind that shooting Opal Arrows will significantly lag your game, so be prepared to experience extremely low frames.
When you land after shooting the arrows, a Blood Moon event will begin as you’ll see the cutscene.
The reason this works is, probably, because the developers have made a failsafe mechanic where the game resets (via the Blood Moon event) if too much lag is caused. Thus, there should be multiple ways to force a Blood Moon if you make your game lag enough.
How to Skip the Blood Moon in Zelda TotK
In case you want to skip the normal Blood Moon event that happens every seven days, there is a way to hide it out.
Specifically, players can skip the Blood Moon in Tears of the Kingdom by going to the Depths right before it happens and waiting until the time goes past 12 am.
Ideally, you should travel to any lightroot just before the time reaches 11:55 and return to the surface after 12:05 to be safe.
Wrapping up
To sum up, players can force the Blood Moon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by using a bug that increases the memory load of the game enough to the point where it pushes it over the edge and causes the event.
To trigger this bug easily, head to areas with heavy processor load (that load slowly) and shoot multiple Opal Arrows such as the wall showcased in Tanagar Canyon West Cave.
Which material do you want to respawn with the Blood Moon? Have you managed to trigger a Blood Moon in any location other than the Tanagar Cave? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below.
