How to Annex Province in Age of Wonders 4

Players will need to annex provinces in Age of Wonders 4 to claim certain resources they need or simply to own an area with a strategic advantage if they’re preparing an attack or want to block enemies.
To annex a province in Age of Wonders 4, follow these steps:
- Have a city near the province you want to annex – If you’re not sure how to do that, check out our guide on how to make outposts and cities in Age of Wonders 4.
- Turn your outpost into a city, or increase the population of your city by 1 – Each population increase will allow you to annex one province.
- Select your city and then the province you want to annex.
And that’s all! After selecting the province, it will be annexed and become a part of your city. Keep in mind that annexing a province will reduce the stability in your city by 5.
Lastly, the range of tiles you can reach to annex will depend on your Town Hall level. A level one Town Hall will allow you to only annex provinces in proximity to your city, while a level two Town Hall will extend the reach by one tile outwards.
Best Provinces to Annex in Age of Wonders 4
Annexing provinces sounds simple, but you shouldn’t annex any province you find. Instead, it’s important to plan ahead and find the best possible provinces to claim.
First, it’s essential to check the major resource of the province you’re planning to annex. Aim for a resource you’re lacking, such as food, gold, and more.
If you’re not looking for resources, you can also annex provinces that have strategic importance.
They can either work as forward ground to move your armies closer to the enemy or as defensive areas that will make it easier to defend your city in case you are attacked.
Wrapping up
To summarize, you can annex a province by increasing your nearby city’s population and then selecting the province you want.
This should be based on the main resource the province has, or on its location if you’ve found one with strategic importance.
