The tips I will focus on here are useful in every scenario and should be used from the early all the way to the end game, regardless of which business you have.

1. Select the Right Business
The most important part whenever you open a new business is to select the right one. For the early game, the most profitable one is always the gift shop. Especially if you can spare the extra money to sell expensive gifts instead of cheap ones, this will lead to guaranteed profit.
Avoid fast food since it requires a lot of investment to become profitable, and you’re good to go.
As for later in the game, anything can work as long as there’s enough demand and it’s in a popular/central area.
During the later stages of the game, where you’ll be able to invest more money in each business from the start, fast food can be worth it if there’s demand.
For instance, if the demand for donuts is high, make sure to get an Industrial Fryer and sell donuts in your shop. If the demand changes, then add the new product in demand asap.

If you have money to spare, then always spend it. Don’t leave it sitting at the bank. Keep some on the side as a backup in case you end up going through a bad week, but not more than that.
