Alear is one of the four playable characters from Lythos and the protagonist of Fire Emblem Engage. Players gain access to Alear right from the prologue and can make Alear either a male or female character.
Since Alear is one of the best units in the game, it’s important to have the right build for him to ensure he can be as useful as possible to the party.
Based on that, the best class for Alear is the Divine Dragon. As for the best emblem, I highly recommend Marth.
In this guide, I will showcase the best class, emblem, and skills for Alear and explain why they are ideal.
Best Class for Alear in Fire Emblem Engage

Alear starts the game as the standard class Dragon Child. While it offers solid stats, the issue is that it is only a standard class and thus doesn’t have any exclusive skills. Therefore, I highly recommend upgrading Alear as soon as you can.
The best class for Alear is the advanced class Divine Dragon. It offers more Defense, Resistance, and Luck compared to the Dragon Child while also unlocking the class-exclusive skill Divine Spirit.
Divine Spirit shortens Alear’s engage meter by one step.

Best Emblem for Alear in Fire Emblem Engage
The best overall Emblem for Alear is Emblem Marth. This is because Marth offers Alear increased Avoidance skills, which are key in keeping him alive.
Additionally, Alear’s high speed will allow Emblem Marth to provide even more Avoidance with the Perceptive skill (available at Lv. 1 and Lv. 16).
However, it is essential to keep in mind that in most battles, you’ll need to keep Alear alive in order to emerge victorious. Thus, if stacking Avoidance isn’t enough for him to survive, consider using more defensive Emblems such as Roy or Tiki.
Their skills Hold Out (Roy, Lv. 1), and Divine Blessing (Tiki, Lv. 1) are ideal for keeping characters alive even when they’re facing exceptionally strong enemies.
Best Skills for Alear in Fire Emblem Engage
While players have many options in terms of skills and experimenting is usually the best method, Alear is an exception to this rule. This is because in most battles, losing Alear means losing the battle.
Therefore, I highly recommend using as many defensive skills as possible, to avoid having to replay battles. Specifically, here are the best skills for Alear:
- Hold Out (Roy, Lv. 1) – If Alear has 30% HP at the start of combat, he will always survive with at least 1 HP (SP cost 2,000).
- Unyielding (Marth, Lv. 7) – At the start of your phase, if Alear has 20% or less HP, restore 20% of his max HP (SP cost 100).
- Perceptive (Marth, Lv. 1) – If Alear initiates combat, gain +15 Avoidance during combat, which increases based on Speed (SP cost 250).
- Divine Blessing (Tiki, Lv. 1) – Grants one Revival Stone to Alear, which revives him when he dies.
With these four skills, Alear will be in the clear for almost any scenario. Hold Out and Unyielding on their own are an amazing combo, Perceptive offers some extra stats, while Divine Blessing is there for any worst-case scenarios.
Wrapping up
To summarize, that’s everything you need to know about the best build for Alear, including his best class, emblem, and skills.
Use anything that keeps him alive, including the Divine Dragon class and Emblem Marth. Combine these with some defensive skills, and you’re good to go.
