Starfield is well known for difficult decision making, the one in the mission High Price to Pay is probably the worst. But I’m here to help you make the best decision and tell you whom to choose between defending the Lodge or the Eye.
Also, since some players are encountering a High Price To Pay bug in Starfield, I’m here to offer you a fix to that potential problem as well.
But first, let’s start with the difficult decision making and see what to choose: Lodge or Eye in Starfield’s High Price to Pay mission.
IMPORTANT: There are some spoilers below, so read only if you are already at this point and/or are ready to accept the said spoilers.
High Price To Pay Starfield Decision Guide
Towards the end of the main story’s quest line, when playing the High Price to Pay mission in Starfield, you will have to choose between defending the Lodge or the Eye.
When you choose to defend one of the two, a character you’re close to (presumably the one you have the closest relationship with) will die. There’s no way around it: which makes this mission worthy of its name.
So, during this mission, you will lose one of the four main companions listed below:
- Andreja
- Barrett
- Sam
- Sarah
But what to choose? Stay at the Lodge or defend the Eye?
When you are put in front of this decision, half of the Constellation faction members will be with you in the Lodge, while the other half will be at the Eye (Vlad’s space station).
It’s not clear which will be where, but so far it appears that the character you have the highest affinity with will be at the Lodge, while the second highest one will be at the Eye.
Therefore, you should make your decision based on this: who do you want to save out of these two characters?
If you want to save the character closest to you, then stay at the Lodge (but the other one will die at the Eye). Otherwise, go at Vladimir’s space station, save your second best mate, but lose the one you’re closest to at the Lodge.
As you can see, no matter what you choose, you are going to lose an important companion and I can tell you for sure that it’s not an easy or pleasant decision to make.
But at least now you know what to expect and you can at least choose (or be as close to being able to choose) the one you want to survive.
And since we’re talking about decisions to be made in Starfield, make sure to also check out the previous guide helping you decide between Louisa or Zoe.
How to fix Starfield High Price To Pay Bug
As if the mission wasn’t difficult enough with the tough choice that you have to make, it appears that a potential High Price to Pay mission bug could affect you.
This bug happens like this: when you are supposed to get back to The Lodge, you won’t be able to land and all landing options in New Atlantis will be greyed out.
The same bug occurs if you have to get back to The Eye if you made the other choice: all is greyed out and you’re unable to land.
The fix for this bug is pretty much annoying, but fortunately easy to fix. Here is what you need to do:
- Go back to your ship, then go back to space and once there, travel to another star system.
If you don’t do it exactly as described above, you will most likely get another error: “Unable to fast travel.” But doing it as above solves that problem too.
I am sure that Bethesda will soon fix the issue – but until then, you can safely use this fix.
We’ve also addressed various other problems in the game in the previously published guide on how to fix stuttering in Starfield on PC. Make sure to check it out if you have such problems.
Conclusion
Now you know about the horrible choice that you have to make during the High Price To Pay mission in Starfield, but at least you’re better prepared to deal with the consequences.
If you somehow find a way to save both companions (or any workaround for this), don’t hesitate to let us all know by commenting below.
