Star Trek: Infinite – How to Change Your Capital

Are you trying to change your capital in Star Trek Infinite after Romulus got blown up? Here’s everything you need to know about it.

While there is no way to manually change your capital, the game automatically assigns the newest planet you colonized as your new capital. Regardless of the capital, thankfully, you have the option to build shipyards anywhere, so the capital planet shouldn’t matter as much.

In this guide, I will showcase what to do when Romulus explodes and you get assigned a new capital, while also explaining how to build shipyards anywhere so that you won’t have to care as much for the capital location.

Can You Change Capital in Star Trek Infinite?

When Romulus blows up during the story, players lose their starting capital. Once this happens, the game automatically assigns the latest planet you colonized as your new capital.

However, many players are left wondering if they can change their capital to a planet of their choice. Unfortunately, the short answer is no, you can’t change your capital in Star Trek Infinite.

There are some alternatives you can try using the cheat console if you want such as the following commands:

  • play (ID): Switches player control to a different empire
  • effect set_origin = (ID): Changes player’s empire origin
  • effect shift_ethic = (ID): Change player’s empire ethics

For more ideas, check out our list of all console commands and cheats in Star Trek Infinite.

Thus, your only option if you want to keep using the same empire and don’t want to use cheats is to keep playing with the new capital you were automatically assigned.

However, this isn’t necessarily bad as you can build shipyards anywhere and use other planets as central points for your fleet, even if they aren’t your capital.

How to Build a Shipyard Anywhere

To build a shipyard, find a system where you can collect Alloy early on (the Chaltok system is a great starting point), and gather enough Alloy until you’re able to upgrade the outpost of your choice.

This is done by clicking the upgrade button on the outpost and waiting 360 in-game days until it’s ready. Once the outpost is upgraded, click on the two boxes with the plus (+) symbol under modules and you’ll be able to build shipyards.

The best part is that you don’t need to research anything to do this.

Wrapping up

To summarize, while you can’t change your capital in Star Trek Infinite manually, there is no reason to do it as you can build shipyards and lead your empire and fleet from any other planet.

You can use console cheats to tweak some settings but not change your empire’s capital.

Do you think you should be able to change the capital at any point? It feels like it’s an option that should have been in the game but for some reason isn’t. Feel free to share your feedback in the comments below.
