The main reason behind this is that Blizzard wants to create a more fair ranking environment where players are in the rank they belong.

How to See Your Rank
After finishing your placement games, you’re probably left wondering where to see your rank. The only sure thing is that you can’t see it anywhere in the main menu.
Instead, players need to select their profile icon from the top right of the main menu, right-click on it, and select ‘View Career Profile’.
