Each of the eight characters in Octopath Traveler starts the game with a default primary job. This job affects the skills and weapons they can use.
While there is no way to change your primary job, you can equip a secondary job to use an increased variety of skills and weapons.
With 12 total secondary jobs, it can be tricky to decide which one to equip for each character.
In this guide, I will explain how to unlock and use secondary jobs in Octopath Traveler 2 and list the best secondary job for each character.
How to Unlock Secondary Jobs in Octopath Traveler 2
To unlock secondary jobs in Octopath Traveler 2, players will need to locate the Job Guild of the secondary job they want to unlock.
The guild will immediately award them one Job License, which allows players to equip that secondary job to any character they want.
Players can get up to three licenses for each job. The extra two licenses are gained by completing missions for the respective guild.
With a secondary job, the equipped character changes its appearance and unlocks certain skills and weapon options based on the equipped job.
But which secondary job should you equip for each character? Let’s see each character in turn.
Best Secondary Job for Castti
Castti starts as an Apothecary and her best secondary job is either as a Merchant or Cleric.
Overall, Castti will fill a support role in your team and you should choose between Merchant or Cleric based on what you need more.
Best Secondary Job for Ochette
Ochette’s starting job is Hunter and the best secondary job for her is the Warrior for the early game and the Armsmaster for the late game.
Ochette has the highest physical attack damage in the game and thus should be paired with a job that complements that damage.
Best Secondary Job for Temenos
Temenos starts as a Cleric and his best job is either a Scholar or a Warrior.
His fairly high magic stats allow him to be a solid Scholar if your team is lacking elemental damage.
However, his Latent Power allows him to break shields with any attack type. Pair this with the Warrior class to give Temenos access to multi-hit skills, and he’ll break boss shields within even one turn.
Best Secondary Job for Throne
Thorne starts the game as a Thief and the best secondary job for her is the Warrior. This is because of her unique Latent Power, which allows Throne to act twice in one turn.
Combined with the Warrior’s high damage skills, Throne can take down almost any enemy with this combo.
Best Secondary Job for Agnea
Agnea starts as a Dancer and her best secondary job is Scholar. This is because Agnea has a very high Elemental Attack stat (second highest in the game after Throne).
Pairing her with a magic class will allow her to be an exceptionally strong mage for your team.
Best Secondary Job for Hikari
Hikari’s starting job is as a Warrior. As an all-around character, Hikari has many options for secondary jobs. As long as it gives him access to a weapon he doesn’t have, any secondary job will do.
For more specific options, I recommend the Hunter job for the early game and the Armsmaster for the late game. The Hunter gives access to axes and bows, while the Armsmaster improves Hikari’s close-quarters capabilities.
Best Secondary Job for Partitio
Partitio starts the game as a Merchant and his best secondary job is the Cleric.
Due to his high defensive stats, Partitio can become a solid healer to ensure your teammates never die. Additionally, as a Merchant, he can provide BP to everyone and make an ideal support unit.
Best Secondary Job for Osvald
Osvald’s starts as a Scholar and the best secondary jobs for him are the Cleric for the early game and the Arcanist for the end game.
These jobs give him access to spells that he doesn’t have from his starter class to further improve his elemental damage.
Wrapping up
To summarize, these are the best secondary jobs for each of the eight main characters in Octopath Traveler 2. The goal is to give each character skills and weapons that complement their base playstyle.
Additionally, you want to provide them with a great variety to break enemy shields more easily.
