During your playthrough of Jagged Alliance 3, you will have the chance to meet Bastien up to three times. If you play your cards right, you can eventually persuade him to smuggle goods for you into the Refugee Camp.

Your first encounter with Bastien will be during your first mission in Jagged Alliance 3, in the I1 sector.
You can find him on the beach and he will remain there until you attack the fort. In this interaction, you have three options with Bastien:
- Let him go – Talk to him and simply let him leave as soon as the dialogue starts.
- Kill him – Kill him at any point during the dialogue. Avoid this option if you want to recruit Pierre later. However, if you don’t care about recruiting Pierre, you can kill Bastien here, which will weaken the fort’s defense and award you 150EXP and 10 Loyalty with Ernie.
- Get diamonds – Ask about the Legion and with a high enough Wisdom stat, you’ll be able to get three diamonds from him.
Bastien Decision – Second Encounter
The second encounter with Bastien will be at the H3 sector, in a small camp. Bastien will be at his base, have some bandits with him, and request money from you. Here are all the available outcomes here:
- Pay – Pay Bastien $1000 to end this interaction. Bastien will defend the fort in the next battle.
- Threaten – Threaten and take their weapons while also making him not be a part of the fort’s defense.
- Trick – Make his companions turn on Bastien which results in them not being part of the fort’s defense.
- Kill – Attack and kill Bastien and his squad. However, you won’t be able to recruit Pierre if you choose this.
Bastien Decision – Third Encounter
Your third and final encounter with Bastien will be in the Refugee Camp at the E9 sector. For this interaction, you have two possible outcomes:
- Befriend Bastien – Support his decision and ask about his food ration business. As a result, Bastien will smuggle goods for you into the Refugee Camp.
- Kill Bastien – This will end the questline and you won’t be able to recruit Pierre.
