Coral Island: How to Unlock Diving and Get Bronze Kelp

Diving is a unique addition to Coral Island and comes in as an extra activity to do similar to mining. Bronze Kelp is one of the critical resources found while diving and players will need a lot of it to complete quests and craft essential items.

However, unlocking diving isn’t exactly straightforward. Players also may struggle to balance their energy among all activities on Coral Island.

To make sure you’re not missing any of the key activities in the early game, consider checking out our guide on the best beginner tips and tricks for Coral Island.

In this guide, I will explain how to unlock diving in Coral Island, how the diving system works, and where to find bronze kelp.

How to Unlock Diving

Ling’s letter initiates the diving quest.

Diving is unlocked early in the spring season. Specifically, on the first days of spring (the 8th day for me), players will receive a letter in the mailbox from Ling.

This letter will initiate the ‘Into the Ocean’ quest and will request players to meet Ling at the diving pier. The diving pier is located just west of the beach. There’s a sign there that says ‘Diving’.

After reaching the diving pier, Ling will lend players a diving suit to help locate solar orbs in the ocean in an attempt to clear the oil spill. After successfully locating the orbs, players will visit Ling at her lab, where she will permanently gift them the diving suit.

From then on, players are free to explore the ocean at their convenience. But how does diving work?

How Diving Works in Coral Island

Diving works similarly to mining. Players use the sickle to clear trash from the ocean floor. Clearing trash has a chance to spawn a solar orb. Players then interact with the solar orb to repair a nearby pillar and clear a small portion of the oil spill.

To progress in the ocean, simply keep clearing trash and find solar orbs. In addition, to progress in new, deeper areas in the ocean there will be some big turtles blocking the way.

These turtles require very specific gifts. For instance, the first turtle requires a bronze-quality cucumber, which can be hard to find when starting since it requires increasing the town’s rank.

Where to Find Bronze Kelp

Similar to bronze ore in mining, bronze kelp is the key early-game resource for diving. It can be found all over the ocean and is essential for completing quests and crafting certain items like sprinklers and bronze kelp essence.

Simply equip your sickle and roam around the ocean to locate bronze kelp. Since it respawns daily, it might be worth checking previously explored areas where bronze kelp has had the chance to respawn.

After diving for a few days, players should have a hefty supply of bronze kelp.

Conclusion

This sums up our guide on how to unlock diving in Coral Island. I hope this helped you unlock the diving system, understand how to explore the ocean, and find enough bronze kelp for your needs.

To unlock diving, progress Ling’s questline. Exploring the ocean requires clearing trash until you find solar orbs, while bronze kelp is located all over the first ocean areas.
