Are you looking for a way too fix performance issues and crashes in Ark: Survival Ascended? Let’s explore all the available solutions.
As with most Early Access released, the latest Ark game has its fair share of performance issues. Players have been dealing with lagging, crashing, FPS drops, and various other general performance issues in the past week since launch.
In this guide, I will showcase the most common fixes to deal with most performance issues in Ark: Survival Ascended and help you get back to playing.
How to Fix Performance Issues and Crashes in Ark: Survival Ascended
Thankfully, there is a wide variety of solutions you can try. Since there’s no one-way fix for all performance issues, I highly recommend trying everything.
Based on that, here are all the possible solutions you can try:
Update GPU Drivers
The simplest fix with any new game release is to check if there’s a new update for your GPU Drivers.
Check your GPU’s software (Nvidia or AMD) and check for updates. These can be downloaded and installed within a few minutes and usually help improve performance.
Lower Graphics Settings
Ark: Survival Ascended is a heavy game in terms of RAM and GPU. Based on its official steam page, the recommended system requirements involve 32GB of RAM and a RTX 3080 or equivalent.
If you don’t have those, consider lowering the settings as much as possible until you have higher FPS.
Verify Integrity of Game Files
Another possible fix is checking if there’s an issue with the game files. Find the game on your Steam Library, right-click on it, and select ‘Properties’.
Navigate to the ‘Installed Files’ tab on the left and select ‘Verify integrity of game files’. Wait a few minutes until it’s completed and try launching the game again.
Close Background Apps
Ensure that while you’re playing, there are no background apps or programs running that could be using too much of your CPU/GPU/RAM.
The easiest way to check that is by opening the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and checking if there are other programs using your resources.
Disable Mods
If you have added any mods, consider temporarily removing them to see if it fixes the issue.
Mods can make a game significantly more demanding in terms of hardware resources and avoiding them can help if your system is on the lower or middle end of the hardware requirements.
If you want to customize your gameplay experience but mods cause performance issues, check out our list of all console commands and cheats in Ark: Survival Ascended.
Wait for an Update
If the issue remains, your best option is to wait for an update from the developers. It’s common for Early Access releases to have poor optimization and if nothing worked for you, your best chance is to wait for a performance update.
Wrapping up
In conclusion, if you’re facing performance issues and crashes in Ark: Survival Ascended, try all the solutions mentioned above.
If nothing works, your best bet is to either upgrade your PC (if you don’t fulfil the recommended system requirements) or to wait for an optimization update from the devs.
