Today’s strategy guide for Era of Conquest will help you play better by understanding the main game mechanics, what to focus on at first and the most important things you should do each time you play.
There are plenty of options available, and different routes you can take to truly enjoy the game, no matter if you’re focusing on the single player element or the multiplayer, alliance vs alliance type of war.
I’m going to cover everything you should know in today’s article – which will be a pretty long one, so buckle up and let’s get this Era of Conquest tips and tricks guide started!
1. The civilization you choose doesn’t matter that much

Yes, I just said that! The truth is that, apart from a visual point of view, the civilization you choose doesn’t make or break your game.
Each civilization gets a resource production bonus, it’s true – but the bonuses are relatively small and don’t really make a difference.
You also get a unique hero of that civilization, but after 1-2 days of playing, you will most likely have them all unlocked anyway (at least the Epic ones), so you have options.
So choose the civilization whose style fits you best – or if you really want to start with the best hero and faction, choose the Germanic civilization. And read more about the best civ in EOC here.
2. Focus on developing your best heroes first
I wrote an in-depth guide to the best heroes in Era of Conquest here and I recommend reading it.
With 30+ heroes available in the game, it is only normal to have some better than the others.
You should focus on developing the best ones first – even though the skills can be reset without losing the coins invested, the biggest challenge is leveling them up.
You can use the Inherit option to progress a little bit – up to level 20, but beyond that, it’s grinding Rebel fights once more. This is why it’s best to focus on the top heroes you have from the beginning.
These include Alexander the Great, Saladin, but also 5-star ones like El Cid or Hermann.
3. Grab all the daily freebies in the game
There are plenty of free things you can earn in EOC by simply playing the game and being active. From daily rewards to all sorts of quests and events – there’s always something free to grab.
The developers of the game are also very good at giving premium currency for free, so make sure to always take advantage of in-game events and potential rewards to progress faster.
And also keep an eye out for the EOC working codes which also give you plenty of freebies.
4. Get your Civic Center to Level 6 ASAP (ideally, level 8)
The Civic Center is the main building in Era of Conquest and you should make it your main goal to get there as fast as possible.
That is when you can build the structure that allows you to create the second army, the War Hall.
Ideally, you should make it your goal to get to level 8 Civic Center as soon as possible in order to have a solid starting foundation.
From this moment onward, progress is a bit slower, but you’re still pretty much set with 2 full armies ready to loot and do all sort of actions on the game map.
5. Focus on completing the main story quests
While they don’t seem that fun to complete – nor important – the main story quest are actually essential for progressing faster in the game.
You will unlock new features exclusively from this set of missions, but also earn plenty of rewards and help your entire civilization progress faster. So focus on this – especially during the dead times when there’s not much else to do.
6. In what order to upgrade your buildings in the game?
Some of the in-game buildings are more important than the others. The most important is the Civic Center whose level decides the maximum level of the other buildings you can build.
Apart from that, I would recommend building first all the levels of the structures you can rush for free (usually, the mines and the Alcazars) and then upgrade these: War Hall, Barracks, Gods of Intelligence.
7. Join a really active alliance
Being part of a strong, active alliance is essential in a game like EOC. No matter how well you play, how active you are and how much you spend in the game, without an active alliance, you’re not going to do well.
You will progress a lot faster and grab even more freebies (as well as other potential boost) from being part of an important alliance – so make sure you keep going around until you find a suitable one.
8. Keep attacking rebels and other NPCs and areas from the world map
Not only that you get plenty of resources from this, but your Heroes also gain experience and level up.
This should be your main activity if other rallies and alliance wars are not taking place – and even if they are, you should still squeeze at least several fights against rebels, resource points or purifications in between.
9. Use the items in your inventory!
You probably don’t know this yet, but you have plenty of resource chests in your inventory. They are in the second tab of your bag – and the game always opens up the first one by default.
Use those resource chests whenever you’re low on resources and need a quick boost to build a new structure.
All the other items that you can consume (like Chests, scrolls and everything else) should be consumed ASAP.
There’s no point in hoarding items at the moment – so unless this changes (like an unlikely upcoming event rewarding you for opening chests) make sure to open all rewards as soon as you get them to enjoy them.
And if you have problems while playing the game, make sure to check out my previous guide on how to fix connectivity errors in Era of Conquest.
10. Keep an eye out for red dots
With so many things to do in this game, it’s really difficult to keep track of everything. This is where the red dots come in handy.
Basically, whenever you see a red dot on one of the in-game buttons, it means that there’s something you can do, a reward you can grab or something like that.
Focus on clicking these dots first and solving whatever they have for you to solve – and only afterwards perform actions that don’t require your immediate attention.
