Specifically, players will need to reach Chapter 4 on the Chaos route and complete certain activities and battles.
Before embarking on this journey, make sure to come prepared with the best build for Denam, since many of these fights will be challenging.
In this guide, I will explain how to recruit Cressida Obdilord in Tactics Ogre Reborn.
Requirements for Recruiting Cressida in Tactics Ogre Reborn
As Cressida is an end-game character, unlocking her is far from easy. Here is everything you need to do to unlock Cressida in the game.
- Be on the Chaos Route and reach Chapter 4
- Complete three specific battles
- Have a high Galgastani Chaos Frame (50 or higher)
Being on the chaos route and reaching chapter 4 is self-explanatory. As for the specific battles, each one will be explained below.
However, the confusing part might be reaching the necessary Galgastani Chaos Frame. Let’s see what this means.
How Chaos Frame Works and What is Galgastani Chaos Frame
Chaos frame is Tactics Ogre Reborn reputation system with various clans. Thus, the Galgastani Chaos Frame is the player’s reputation with the people of Galgastan.
The higher the chaos frame, the more the people of that clan like you. To recruit Cressida, you will need a Galgastani Chaos Frame of 50 or higher.
The tricky part is that unless you’ve completed the game once, you can’t see your chaos frame. However, it is still possible to get Cressida on your first playthrough, even though you can’t see your chaos frame.
Travel to the nearest city (e.g. Almorica), enter the shop, and hire recruits. Find a lawful recruit from Galgastan (shown in the clan section) and hire them.
Since you’ve hired a Lawful recruit who hasn’t fought at your side yet, their opinion of you is directly related to your reputation with Galgastan. To see their opinion, from the party screen, hover over the recruit’s name.
Based on what they say in the loyalty message, you can find out your reputation with Galgastan.
Here are all the possible messages and their respective chaos frame.
- 100-81 Galgastani Chaos Frame – This unit supports you in all things. A loyal ally to the end.
- 80-61 Galgastani Chaos Frame – This unit speaks on your behalf to win others to your side.
- 60-41 Galgastani Chaos Frame – More often than not, this unit speaks in support of your decisions.
- 40-31 Galgastani Chaos Frame – Though not openly discontent, this unit is often at odds with your decisions.
- 30-21 Galgastani Chaos Frame – Of late, this unit has grown more vocal in criticizing your decisions.
- 20-11 Galgastani Chaos Frame – It’s not uncommon to find this unit defying you openly in front of others.
- 10-0 Galgastani Chaos Frame – This unit has lost all faith in you and can scarcely look you in the eyes while talking.
Your goal is to reach the 80-61 mark before progressing to the battles to recruit Cressida.
How to Increase Galgastani Chaos Frame in Tactics Ogre Reborn
There are two main ways to increase the Galgastani Chaos Frame in Tactics Ogre Reborn. The first option is choosing dialogue options that increase it in Chapter 4. Without spoiling too much, try and choose dialogue options related to power, treasure, and knowledge.
The second way involves the death march. This can be done as soon as you begin Cressida’s side quest.
Visit the shop, hire 11 Galgastan recruits, and send them to death march. For each recruit that stays alive at the end of the fight, you get a Chaos Frame bonus.
Of course, if all of them die, you lose Chaos Frame, so make sure to avoid that scenario.
Repeat as many times as needed until you get a Chaos Frame of over 50.
How to Recruit Cressida in Tactics Ogre Reborn – First Battle at Balmamusa Dead
While in Chapter 4 of the Chaos Route, there will be an entry in the talk section named ‘The Balmamusa Dead’. The next time you visit Balmamusa, a battle will trigger.
On the map, there will be a cleric NPC that is dead. Your goal is to revive them before the death timer ticks down.
Make sure to come prepared with dedicated clerics while also having Blessing Stones equipped on everyone. This way, someone will always be able to revive the cleric.
After reviving the cleric, they will teleport away to safety. Your goal now is to clear the remaining enemies and you’ve completed the first battle.
How to Recruit Cressida in Tactics Ogre Reborn – Second Battle at Qadriga Fortress
For the second battle, you’ll be facing Terror Knights at Qadriga Fortress. Your objective here is straightforward: kill their boss, Dievold.
Dievold will charge at your eventually, so you don’t have to try and defeat every single enemy on the map. As long as you defeat him, the battle is over and you’re one step closer to recruiting Cressida.
How to Recruit Cressida in Tactics Ogre Reborn – Third Battle at Golyat
For this fight, your goal is to revive Cressida before her timer runs out, and make sure she doesn’t die again (she can’t be revived twice) while also defeating every single enemy on the battlefield.
The best strategy here is to send all your units to revive and protect Cressida at the start of the fight, keep her HP always on full, and take down enemy bosses one by one.
