Resident Evil games are known for their difficulty, especially when considering the high HP of enemies, scarce ammo supplies, and expensive pricing of store items.

However, there is no way to change the difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake after starting the game, other than going from Standard to Assisted mode.

When starting, players will be asked to choose between four difficulty settings in Resident Evil 4 Remake:

  • Assisted Mode – Has Aim Assist, players can gain extra ammo while crafting, automatic health regeneration when HP is low, and discounted item prices at the Merchant.
  • Standard – The basic game mode, recommended for anyone who hasn’t played the original Resident Evil 4.
  • Hardcore – Enemies are stronger and items are more expensive. This is recommended for anyone who has played the original Resident Evil 4.
  • Professional – Even stronger enemies (they hit harder and have more HP) and ammo is a luxury.

As for which one to choose, each difficulty has its benefits. Assisted Mode is recommended if u want an experience focused primarily on the story instead of having to struggle with combat and managing resources.

Standard is recommended if you’ve never played the original game before, while Hardcore is the best choice for those who’ve played it.

Lastly, Professional is only for those who are willing to put in the extra hours and test their patience while trying to do everything efficiently and make the most with the few materials they’ll have.

Keep in mind that the game has certain achievements tied to completing it on higher difficulties.

But what if you chose a difficulty settings and decided that you don’t like it and want it changed? How do you do that?
